When it is dinnertime, I usually am perched in my reclining chair with a tray with my dinner on it, watching Wheel of Fortune and Persi is perched on the left arm of the chair waiting for his share of dinner. This has been going on for four years. About then, Alley came to live with us. I always tried to give her special good treats like chicken and fish but she never ever wanted anything at all except her dried food.

Last night I had a quick ham sandwich. Persi was in his usual spot but Persi does not like ham. But he must have thought that surely I was having a ham and cheese sandwich and would give him some cheese. He was clearly becoming irritated when I offered him ham but no cheese.

Alley, as usual, was in the background watching. But for some reason, the first time in 3 1/2 years, she approached me and put her paws up on the recliner and I held out a small bite of ham for her. She sniffed it for what seemed like an eternity and then ate it to my surprise. At that point in time, she turned into a vicious tiger! She actually jumped onto my lap for some more ham! This spiraled Persi into a rage and he jumped down and headed upstairs.

The timid, shy, aloof, recluse Alley was there in my lap, snapping up the few more pieces of ham I offered her. I am almost lucky to still have all of my fingers!

What the heck has come over her? What a changeover. OK, I guess ham is not the best thing to be feeding a cat. But maybe now I can get her to eat a little chicken or tuna or something. Wow, I wonder what happened to her?

This evening I was enjoying some lovely crumbly cheese before dinner and sat down in the easy chair in the kitchen. Felix was up on my lap in a flash, so I gave him a morsel, which he happily inhaled. I then put another bite into my mouth.

Imagine my surprise (and disgust) to feel a cat snout and then barbed tongue against mine! YES! Felix was IN MY MOUTH trying to get the cheese.

I kissed a cat....and I didn't like it!!!!!

Too cute!!

Abby is the same. She will only eat her dry food. The only people food I can get her to "eat" is left over cereal lactaid milk, and once or twice she even lapped up a tablespoon or two of the juice from either the canned tuna or salmon (can't remember which).

Alley decided "Hey, maybe some of this human food isn't so bad after all!"
What a cutie.

Pria was literally in my plate this morning licking off the top wrapper of my yogurt container.
I HAVE to share my morning yogurt with her. Drives Dana nuts. He says I'm not teaching her manners.

Hey, my boys are spoiled, too. They are "in my face" when I have food and we allow them on the dining table. But then my situation is unique in that I don't live with them... complicated.... so I guess I am compensating.

Banshee shared DH's banana every day of her entire life. She would scream and yell for her share. She loved bananas. And cantaloupe, she loved cantaloupe. Oh and mangoes. And Shredded Wheat, too. The list goes on and on.

When I put a chicken or turkey in the oven, once the aroma started permeating through the house, she would sit on the floor in front of the oven door, waiting for that bird to get done. And when it was done? Oh my, such screaming and carrying on! She'd eat half the bird if we'd let her!

We always open one more can of tuna than I need for a recipe. Why? Because that extra can is split between the cats. And Mollipop has decided that she loves tuna, too. And she loves cheese, teeny little pieces of Cheddar cheese, to be exact.

That reminds me! Abby also likes the yogurt that is found on the bottom/top of those yogurt-style granola bars. She will lick it all off of my granola bar if I don't stop her. She won't eat the bar, just the yogurt. She also likes those flavoured rice cakes.... chocolate/caramel ones. And she will take the odd bite of it.
