Carolina...they even rented a beach front condo...I am not sure if she changed her plans or not but she is supposed to be driving down today I just hope that if she did decide to go..she gets there BEFORE The storm hits.
Where in OBX are they staying?
There's a mandatory evacuation of Dare County for all tourists. And in South Nags head- people (ie tourists) were being told to leave too.

In other words- if they're tourists- they're going to be turned around before they get too far (if they even went)

Honestly I don't understand some of the year-round residents. Isabel was NOT a nice storm. As it was in my area (and we're 30 or so miles inland) we lost power for 3 days, we lost at least 10 trees in our backyard (and thankfully nothing fell on the house- everything fell away from the house), I wouldn't want to stay on the beach (or even a few miles inland) when there's a hurricane knocking at my front door

My brother and his family live in Westchester Co, NY. (North of NYC). Not so worried about THEM per ce, but they are supposed to leave on an end-of-summer vacation early Sat. morning. I told my bro' that I wouldn't be surprised if the airports are closed as a precaution!

It clouded up here around 11 am. Wind started just a little around 2 pm, but still hasn't gotten any stronger, except for a few minor gusts. A few raindrops have fallen, nothing significant.
The humidity is going up. Our birds are still playing outside under the dogwood tree. Dog and cats are sleeping.

We're as ready as we can be, but I think we'll get lucky with this one. I'll try to report again in a couple of hours.

Still overcast. No wind, no rain...just humid. Temp has dropped to 70 degrees F.
Animals are calm. Going to bed soon, as I plan to get up around midnight, 2 hours before the storm center is supposed to be off our coast.

I'll post an update then.

We had a little rain about 5:30, but none since then. The sky got dark for awhile, but has cleared up for the most part. The tourists have evacuated, but the people who live here are mostly at home. Many of us positioned ourselves nearby the trailer parks that flood badly and the elderly folk's apartments, but we got no calls to go to the shelters, just the stores and banks. There are several shelters in town, one that accepts pets, but they are empty. The forecast is not calling for any more rain after tonight, so we are hopeful that it is becoming much ado about nothing. Please keep the prayers and vibes coming.

I stayed up until about midnight. At that time the storm was turning right just a bit. Went to bed and never heard anything else until I woke up this morning. There isn't even a tree limb down in the yard. We did get rain and some wind, but nothing to keep a person awake. It is gone from us. Stay safe everyone else.
