There is 2 cats, both calico, one male and one female. the female is always dominating and indoors, the male is usually outside, comes in to eat/sleep then leaves. they're both over 10 yrs. old, but the female uses the litter box. The male doesn't. The male poops and pee's anywhere in the garage, especially if we arent awake to let it out.. How do we train the male calico to start using the litter box?

Now even though I'm letting the cat in to sleep and letting the door open so it can go, now it CHOOSES to go in the house, it went 4 times in 1 round today. I already went and got training pads, and placed like 4 of them down where it went last time, and it looks like it just avoided them. I caught it one time going in the litter box months ago, but then it got scared and left and never used it again. I dont get it. I tried putting it in front of it's poo then saying 'bad' and spraying it with water, but it keeps doing it.. i am sick and tired of this. Please help.

Same answers as are given here and in more detail here. Though you're having problems with a pooping cat, too.

Add more litter boxes, try other litters, try sprinkling a little dirt or leaves on top of that litter. And if you want him to be indoor only, try litter box training him. The way to do this is to pick a smaller room, - like a bedroom or larger bathroom, and keep him in there for a few days with a couple litter boxes. If you want him to remain indoor/outdoor add a cat door for him so he doesn't have to wait on you to let him out.

Don't bother to reprimand him. He has about as much reasoning skills in that area as an infant does.

It's quite possible that your senior male cat is ill, and that is why he is pooping so much and in inappropriate places.

Please take him to the vet for a complete check up.

He could be suffering from constipation problems. It hurts when he poops, so he blames the box and poops elsewhere.

Constipation can be a serious health problem all it's own, but it can also be an indication of other serious illnesses such as kidney disease and hyperthyroid, and arthritis.

Saying "bad" and spraying him is only teaching him to fear you and to be afraid to poop, which is going to make the problem worse.

I understand your frustrations but when a cat stops using the litter box it's because there is something wrong in his world and this is how he communicates. It's the human's job to find out what's wrong.

Welcome to TCS and please keep us posted.
