WBCL question

I decided to give Worlds Best Cat Litter a try this week. Picked up the multi cat clumping kind, but so far, the entire house smells like Google Poo.... Does any know of anything to add to the litter or if i should mix another kind in to make it any better? Google does a VERY good job of covering his poo (read as will scratch every bit of litter in the pan over the poo...) so I dont think its that. We have been using Tidy Cats, but we have had some serious tracking problems thanks to Mr Toe Fluff (Google...) and we are just trying to find something better. So far we are happy with how little it is tracking, but we dont like the smell!
Does anyone else have this problem?
HELP!

I'll be watching this thread as I have been considering a switch to worlds best, too. I'm just trying to figure out how to fit it in the budget. Currently litter only cost me $16 a month.

the bag claims it will last a month with 2-3 cats. It was $20 at petsmart. I hope it works out. I have switched them to much better quality food, and litter is the next on the list!

I use chicken feed and don't really have this problem. I can smell it right after certain cats go.. but I've walked into smelly bathrooms before and that's with everything being flushed. Otherwise that smell fades after a few minutes.

You can always try adding a bit of baking soda.

I may do that. Hopefully that will help. I saw some arm and hammer litter additive while I was at petsmart but it was expensive!
I havent noticed if Joey has gone yet, I just know Google is our smelly one...
...Just use baking soda. .30-50 cents a box. The so called litter additive is just baking soda and an added perfume which defeats the purpose of using an unscented litter.

If Google is always a bit smelly you might want to go over his food or try some probiotics a bit to see if it helps.
One of my smelly ones is Sherman... I can't change his food since it's a script he has to stay on.

We scoop as soon as possible to prevent any odor. That's pretty much the only thing I've found that works, no matter what type of litter we use.

That works I will try that! I think I will make it through this bag, but then just switch back to tidy cats or something. We have switched both the boys over to Precise Foundation because I cannot stand the smell of Taste of the Wild, and they seem to kind of like this one. They are rather picky. And we are feeding them Merrick wet food for Google (Joey refuses to eat wet...)

On another note: Found this website I really hope that the author just doesnt know what he is saying otherwise I am going to be very worried!!
Any probiotics you could recommend? I honestly had to go shower in the other bathroom it was so bad!

I scoop 2 times a day as its. But even after we scoop its like you can still smell it. It almost smells like burnt popcorn...

I use WBCL and I can smell Chicksters poops, but it's a good thing for me because it reminds me to clean the box every day...

Also, WBCL, both Multiple and Single have a distinct odor on their own, I can only relate it to going to a petting zoo and smelling the hay or the goats or something, but it's not a bad smell to me. I started using it because of Boo, but since bringing Boca in, I let him use clay since it's only for night time and Chickster prefers using that pan too over the WBCL.

It has lasted an EXTREMELY long time with only Chickster. With Boo peeing as much as he was, it wasn't lasting as long as I thought it should, but that's just me.

The baking soda should do the trick. Mom bought that back when we used a different clay litter that didn't work so well and it worked like a charm.

If the poop is really really stinky it might not be the wbcl's fault Boo went through a stage of reaaaaally stinky poo but I don't think it was food related, but I couldn't barely walk in the pan room it was so bad. You've made me realize that since putting Chickster on Purina One's Weight Loss formula her poo's haven't smelled as strong as the Chicken and Rice formula, hmmmm...
Good luck

Edit: Boca poo'd overnight in his pan and I just put him out for the day, and I've had to open all the windows in the sunroom because of his poo, and that's Fresh Scent Scoop Away that smells really good. Woooooooooooo that was bad!!

Hmm...see that's what I was afraid of. I have a sensory intolerance disorder and I think that this smell you speak of would bother me too much.

Maybe someday when I have a home where I can have the litter boxes in their own separate room with the door closed (cat door installed) I can switch to a littler that has an odor, but for now I think I am going to just have to stick to plain fragrance free non clumping clay.

Oh and I use baking soda too. Both in the boxes, if needed and in the dirty litter bag. I keep a small box half full, stuck in an empty kleenex box and keep the scoop stuck in that.

I also use baking soda for cleaning. Did you know baking soda now comes in big 4 pound boxes?

Yeah, when I first smelled it I said Ohh I know that smell. It's not pretty Fresh Scent Scoop Away (I LOVE the way that stuff smells, Boo always smelled like a man who had just taken a shower when he came back from the potty) but I was ok with it. I told my friend about it and she made the most horrible face.

Mom is really sensitive to smells too, but we are lucky, we have an entire room we use for the pans and it's downstairs and away from the livingroom/dining room. So family gatherings aren't bad.

I was surprised to see my friend's set up, she lives in a trailer and in her bathroom she has a bathtub and on the otherside a very small stand up shower. She uses the stand up shower for the cat pan and puts a shower curtain in front of it. pretty neat.

My cats litter boxes are behind a curtain too. And there's a window, in which I put a reversed fan nightly, to suck out dust and odor. The boxes are at the bottom of an open staircase in the area where the water pressure tank and hot water heater are. But I think the scent of the corn would still waft up the stairs and bother me.

Do you know if you hunt around a bit if comes in 12lb bags. And probably larger than that for bakeries.

I'm really bothered by smells, to the point that I will gag and heave unless I get away from particular scents (such as the alcohol based foaming hand sanitizer at the hospital ). Maybe it's because I'm from a rural farming area that grainy animal smell doesn't bother me? It smells... natural.

It could be the food. Maybe it's just not as good for Google? It's rarely so simple when you have multiple cats... one just has to have something they can't or won't eat. Probiotics you can try are bene-bac, fortiflora (from the vet), and eagle pack's holistic solutions. The latter has a nice smell and you just sprinkle it on top of their food.

I never had a problem with odor when I used it. It did stink at first (obviously) but it controlled odor pretty well. However, it was getting much too expensive, as one of those 7 pound bags lasted JUST over a week for ONE litter box (and I've got four). So I looked into alternatives. Turns out chick feed works like a charm. Just make sure it's the un-medicated kind. Practically the same thing, but much less expensive. I can get a 50 pound bag of it for $13 at our local feed store.

thanks guys! I like the price of Precise food, its $12 for a medium sized bag, and the ingredients seem great! But I may look around some and see what I can find!

I got some baking soda and it did help a lot with the smell. I LOVE how little it tracks, and it does seem to be lasting much better! But not sure if we will continue using it. The grainy smell really bothers the Beau, so we will see how we feel by the end of the bag!

I use WBCL mixed with Sweatscoop. It can smell nasty right after they first go, but it "settles down." We scoop twice a day, so not always right away after they go. I'm fairly sensitive to smells, but more like the perfumy stuff. I got the arm and hammer (I think it was) litter once on someones recommendation and couldn't stand to smell it.
