Okay so last night, I used a type of flea drops on my 16 yr old female cat. This morning, or actually around noon today, I noticed she kept shaking her back leg, then a little later it was both legs any time she started to walk. I grew concerned and started researching on the web about it, I came to alot of conclusions that said, poisoning.. I immediatley went and bathed her (against her wishes although suprisingly she didnt bring her claws out)

Anyway, she is basically fully dry now, I am concerned because she seems to be shaking all over now, not anything dramatic just a very subtle shake, she is cleaning herself, and seems to move around fine (still shaking the leg but not all the time) I am just concerned over the subtle shake, she wasnt before I bathed her.. Any ideas? I am kind of broke so I do not want to have to rush her to Vet if its not needed but at the same time, she's my baby and if I have to I will bring her even if its the 24hr emergency one that costs triple...

Should I just monitor her for any worsening or vet, or what?

thanks

I would get her to a vet and bring the package from the drops that you used. This is not something that should wait.

Don't wait. You didn't say what kind of flea medication you used. Some of the over the counter ones have caused seizures and bad things in cats. Go now and give us an update when you come home. Good luck.

Let me show you something. These are two rescues I got in several weeks ago where the owners used over the counter flea drops and shampoo. NEVER use this stuff- it is inherently dangerous- Here are before and after pictures:

it took weeks of bathing, antibiotics, etc to get these cats looking anything like they should. They still have a long way to go and we are monitoring them for long-term internal issues as well. Had they been younger, they may not have made it at all.

Any parasite problem needs to be addressed by a vet and given the right meds to control it. Over the Counter products are never the answer-

I would take the drops you used and call your vet and get her in. Ask for blood work to be run so you have a baseline to go by. Then do the same thing in 30-60 days or sooner if she develops problems

Good Luck

I agree - make sure you have the package and call the vet, or E-vet - and then proceed as they advise. Please update - I hope things are better now, but I really think you need professional advice.

But, try not to blame yourself too badly about trying the OTC stuff - lots of people are under the impression they're ok (after all, they're being sold right out in the open), but, yes, they can have dangerous side effects.

Hope all is better today?
