Might finally be getting over my fear of needles (for the most part anyway)

I'd rather not say.
So ever since the age of 3 or 4 I've had to have nightly injections of meds (I had some sort of growth disorder), and now that I've pretty much grown to my full height, I still have to use it, but now it's for different reasons. Up until the other day, my dad usually did it because a) he likes to do those things himself, because he's a bit of a control freak sometimes
. and b) I do not handle needles well. At all. I've only just learned how to control my panic attacks when I get blood drawn a couple of years ago, and I'm still deathly afraid of IVs. But now that I'm going off to college in a couple of days, my doctor agreed that I needed to learn how to inject myself. So we switched over to the "pen", which is basically a pre-mixed pen like syringe that's already filled with a set amount of the meds. You just attach a needle, dial the dose on the pen, and inject. It's really easy to do, though I was a bit hesitant to stick a needle into myself. It kind of goes against my instincts to chuck the needle across the room and run out of there, you know? Well, it's actually going better than I thought it would have-only a few days in and I'm already kind of used to it. Since I have to do on my belly (which is a 1st time experience for me), I barely feel anything usually, which definitely helps. Usually, I can actually feel the needle in my body (esp. when I get blood drawn). So I'm actually very excited to do this on my own for a change! My only regret is that the nurse didn't come earlier in the summer.

Wow! You should be proud of yourself.

I have to self-inject a medication every two weeks. When the doctor first told me about it I was scared. When I went in for the instructions I was really nervous. But it turned out to be very easy.

I also use a pen. But the one I use is self contained. No need to attach the needle. Just take of the ends, put it where you need it and push the button.

After a few times it gets to be so easy.

(But I wouldn't want to do it every day. )

Sending that you get used to it very soon

That is awesome that you are getting over it. I am a full believer that confronting your fears is the best way to get over them. (I used to be terrified of spiders, and to get over it, I ended up with 12 tarantulas :p)
That rocks that you can be more independent because of it, go you! I hope you continue to become used to the process, and lose the fear!

Wow! Needles aren't an easy fear to ignore, especially when you have to have them often. Good for you for taking control of your emotions, and of your life.

I used to have nightmares and night terrors about needles. I remember getting shots in my eyes, and in my neck. In one repeater dream, my best friend and I were being chased by someone with a 8-in needle, I heard my friend go down and then felt the needle slide into my back...

Anyway, I ended up having pernicious anemia and have to give myself shots every few days. I was freaked out at first but friend told me, "Isn't it neat that the thing you were so afraid of is now going to save your life?"

It's hardest to do when I'm not feeling well, and that's when I need to give myself the shots the most. Good wishes in your continued successes!
