Bill Millin was a veteran of World War II and participated in the D-Day landings at Normandy. He was immortalized in the film "The Longest Day", playing his bagpipes.

Here's a clip from the film.

What a wonderful legacy this man has left. Men and women who have dedicated their lives to the service of their country deserve much love and respect. As an American I would like to say thank you Mr. Millin for your service. Also thank you and God Bless you to all the men and women in uniform who serve the USA today. Thank you for your service.

RIP Bill Millin. Thank you for your service and love for your country. I have the utmost respect for service men and women that risk their lives for their country.

On a side note....is Christopher Plummer playing the commanding officer here? I don't think I've ever seen this one.

The commando leader in the white shirt? That was Lord Lovat who was portrayed by Peter Lawford. The two officers he is shown shaking hands with in the film are from the British 6th Airborne Division. One of them was Major John Howard, played by Richard Todd. who referred to the scenes in the film regarding Pegasus Bridge as "sentimental rubbish". The officer who Lovat apologized to for being late was Colonel Richard Geoffry Pine-Coffin. I didn't see him, or the actor who played him, listed in the cast credits. As far as I know Christopher Plummer wasn't in the film, but there were also a lot of uncredited bit parts.
