So I come home this afternoon from clinicals. My kids don't start back to school until Sept 7 (obnoxiously late IMHO) so they've been home all day.

There's a note on the pantry door. KEEP DOOR CLOSED

I ask why.

HollyHeart has been trying for months to get the top off of the tupperware container I keep the cat food in. There are bite marks all over it

I can't keep it in the bags b/c we have an ant problem. And HollyHeart figured out pretty quickly how to open the bag to get the food out all over the floor.

Well today she succeeded. The kids said that she got the top off- dragged it into the other room. Then she came back, tipped over the cat food and had a snack

At least they cleaned it up. I'm kind of puzzled as to why the kids didn't catch her doing it. Unless she did it while they were asleep. Hm. I left the house at 5:40am, and dh left sometime after 6am. They're teenagers, on summer break, so I know it wasn't that early when they got up. And it would make sense if she did it then, I probably didn't give her enough food when I left (her opinion, not mine)

Guess she's not a "dumb cat"

I'll make sure the door is completely shut tomorrow morning.

There is no such thing as a dumb cat. My cat Max would open the kitchen cabinet door and get under the sink. The woman I got him from told me this.
They both had to get up early and go to work. When they forgot to feed Max, he knew where the cat food was. It was under the sink cabinet. He would turn over the box and feel himself. So she told me feed him, he was hungry when he did that. Cats are very smart.

Haha! That's great!
Well you are obviously starving the poor girl if she has to resort to stealth stealing while the teens are asleep!

Nah, I'm sure even with the door shut she will keep trying to find a way into the food...
Like you said, she's not a dumb cat.

No such thing as a dumb cat when there's food involved! I think their IQ jumps ten points when they smell something tasty or are hungry.

She did it again today.

Lid wound up on the stairs. And she somehow dragged the container the food was in out into the kitchen floor.

If she keeps this up she's going to look like Sneaky Pie

The door WAS SHUT when I left at 5:45 this morning

I'm moving the food container up to a higher shelf. Let's just hope she doesn't figure out how to open the door and knock the food container and whatever else is on the shelf off
