My Lissie-Lou is a clip-ear (feral) Maine Coon and I adopted her because as an FIV+ they were going to put her down. She is very shy but is good with me when we are alone. Ilove her very much and groom her daily which she loves. She is very stopped up all the time, sneezes a lot and sometimes seems to choke when eating and can't breathe. She has few teeth and eats Purina Natural and a tsp of ground wet food for a treat every day. She sleeps under my bed at night I hear her wheeze a lot. She is bony too. I worry that it's the FIV, but I also wonder if some Chlor-Trimeton or something like it could help.

Going to the vet is extremely traumatic for her, and I would rather not take her again, besides I don't like the vet here - she treated a friend's old sick/dying cat to the tune of $500 dollars then gave her to me to take home and she died in the car! Why didn't the vet just say she is old and dying take her home and lover her - LIKE A DECENT VET WOULD!!

I LOVE my Lissie and don't want her to suffer - she seems calm except for the sneezing and wheezing and eye discharge ( which i clean daily and gently)

Any advice from FIV+ owners?

As you know, a FIV pos cat really needs extra care. I can't give any other advice than try to see a different vet.

I have had my vet here at the house to vaccinate a couple of kitties who do not do well in carriers. Can you look around for a vet that might do that for you.

But either way, she needs to be seen. I know it's a difficult thing to get them to the vet...I have to get one of mine there today, and it won't be easy.

I hope you can find someone come to the house. Possibly a course of antibiotics will clear her up. But, IMO she needs to be seen.

It sounds like she could use some blood work done since she's losing weight. So she does have to go to a vet clinic.

One thing you really need to do right now it to get her eating. She likes her wet food, correct? Then give her as much of it as she will eat. If her nose is stuffed up you can make the food more appealing by slightly warming it up.
If you can run the shower and get your bathroom warm and steamed up do so, then take her in there and sit with her a bit as that can open up her sinuses a bit.
