Tens of thousands every year. Its' the cost of living in a civilized country as opposed to the small government utopia of say...Somalia. I pay them gladly.

Somalia, the land of "rational self interest and libertarian magic dust."

WoooHooo.

Maybe another $1,500 from Florida. I guess Governor Charlie Crist is a socialist too. There was a story on the news that sent me to this. The state rebate, in the form of a prepaid Amex, can be piggybacked onto the the $1,500 from The Fed Gov. A bit more complicated and I'll have to delay the install from Weds till next Monday to qualify but I'll have my HVAC guy on the phone tomorrow.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his heating and cooling needs.

The Florida ENERGY STAR® Residential HVAC Rebate Program is designed to encourage existing homeowners to replace their old energy-inefficient heating and cooling system with a properly-sized energy efficient system and to ensure that their heating and cooling duct system has minimal leakage.

Qualifying Appliances: The following Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Cooling (HVAC) standards have been set by the federal government to meet the Federal Energy Tax Credits. Systems that meet the Federal Energy Tax Credits standards will also meet Florida’s ENERGY STAR® Residential HVAC Rebate Program standards

Other Requirements to Qualify: In addition to purchasing a new central air conditioner, air source heat pump or geothermal heat pump in Florida that meets the Federal Energy Tax Credits standards, Florida homeowners must also hire either a Florida Class 1 rater, a State of Florida licensed Mechanical Contractor, or a recognized test and balance agent to perform a duct test on their home to document that the home has no more than 15 percent leakage to the outside (as indicated by a score of 0.10 Qn.out).

I just postponed my install so I can qualify for the Florida Energystar rebate. The money to fund the state program is from "Obama's Stimulus".

I'm taking even more of Joe The Plumber's money.

I replaced an old storm door for an energy efficient one and will take about $60 energy credit from Joe the Plumber. My neighbors are having their doors and windows replaced to take advantage of Joe.

I think what is more important here, is that people like us are actually putting money into the economy now by buying things that help the environment long term.

I think I'll look into adding more insulation in my attic before winter hits.

The people across the street from me ran up their entire credit on energy efficient windows. That kept some people employed and put some money into the economy. Poor Joe must be living on Ramen by now with all the money we've taken from him.

Of course, you do. Human nature.
