We haven't owned a dog for nearly 15 years! This little (for now) girl is keeping us on our toes. Great Danes are gentle giants, but when she's full grown she should be able to provide security with just her imposing appearance, lol. 8 weeks old and 20 lbs of lovable dogginess.

All the bengals have the "WTH Mom & Dad!?" looks on their faces. Gotta love it.

She looks like my niece's RB Dane, Zeus. He wanted to be a lap dog.

Beware of that tail - it can send objects flying off shelves and tables.

She is so beautiful .... she looks so strong. I think black great danes are gorgeous. I love her name, too.

Wow, she's gorgeous! Congrats. Be sure to keep us updated with pictures! I'm sure she'll grow very big, very fast.

Understatement of the lifetime! LOL! That tail will be a dangerous weapon! Beware of the bruises you will get on your thighs! And watch out if you ever bend over near the tail... they hurt when they whack your head! (it may be safer not to ask on that LOL!)

I have grown up with danes and am looking into fostering one at the moment! They are amazing dogs! We had a harlequin named Shocka who my mom would put by the same chair every week and take a picture of. It was amazing to see how much she would grow in a weeks time!
The puppy stage is VERY odd with them though! As they grow so big so fast! They will get stuck in furniture because they dont understand why last week they ran under the coffee table no problem! Dakota our brindle boy would sleep under the coffee table a lot but then something would spook him or he'd hear something and the whole table would go flying!

I cant wait to see pictures of Kiwi as she grows up! Enjoy your life with a 170lbs lap dog!

Thank-you everyone for your comments.

Since Kiwi is a girl, hopefully she won't get to be 175 + lbs. The girls are normally smaller at 130 and lower. We'll see!

Kiwi is AKC registered, but we got her for free under odd circumstances. She arrived at the vet hospital my wife works at, lethargic and vomiting. Suspected of having eaten potting soil. After a brief 2 day hospital stay and treatment she was back to normal.
Her original owner was not happy about her bill and not happy about about things he had learned about great danes since purchasing her.
He paid his bill, left with her and came back 30 minutes later to surrender her to the clinic if anyone wanted her.

We had been contemplating buying a dane or a dobie for several years, so this seemed almost like fate. Teri agreed right away to taken possesion and the rest is history. We have contacted her breeder to notify them and are awaiting a response. Hopefully her breeder cares enough to know where she is.

Have you read Amazing Gracie: A Dog's Tale? It's a wonderful book about a deaf Great Dane who ended up inspiring Three Dog Bakery. OK, I was a puddle of tears at the end, but it's an inspiring, lovely book. Then again, I also enjoyed The Art of Racing in the Rain (cried there), and am working through A Dog's Purpose (yep, sobbing there as well).

Your Kiwi is beautiful - and blessed that she found the right home.
