JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!

Seriously though.. I need a fattening diet for her.

She suffered a severe allergic reaction to fleas recently and lost 2 lbs. She was 8.2lbs in June when she went to the vet the first time, and now she's 6.8lbs as of the vet trip yesterday.

The vet gave me tips and recommended about 6 different foods, but I already don't like commercial cat food and would like to try actual food on her.

She's on revolution, received CapStar at the vet and received .... Melantonin? not sure if that is right but from memory that's what it sounded like the vet said.

Anyway, what are healthy diet plans for her to help her gain weight?

Thanks.

Well I don't know if it's the healthiest plan in the world, but kitten chow will definitely work to pork out an adult cat!

So she has a clean bill of health other than needing to gain weight? How old is she and what is she currently eating?

You don't want to add the weight back on too quickly, so I would think that feeding what she normal eats will gradually get her back to where she was. You really don't want to increase the amount of what you're feeding because then when she gets back to her ideal weight, you'll have to cut back and then that creates another problem--begging for food. Consistently feed her what you've been feeding her and she'll get back to where she was before because her appetite should increase some since she's feeling better.

She's currently eating nothing, but in her bowl is Friskies, Goodlife Recipe and Meow Mix.

The problem I'm having is SHE REFUSES TO EAT.

The vet said to add tuna and smelly canned food to her food, but she isn't interested.

She ate scrambled eggs this morning. Which I'm glad she ate, but.. she wasn't supposed to be on the table eating my food while I was out of the room..

Unless you are going to research cat nutrition and learn how to make a balanced diet for her out of human food, you need to be feeding her a high quality commercial cat food.

That will get her back up to her healthy weight in a gradual way, which, as already mentioned, is best.

She may not feel like eating today after all the meds from yesterday. The capstar and/or the revolution can put her appetite off for a day or two. She should be feeling much better by tomorrow.

I don't think it would be melatonin that your vet gave her, that doesn't sound right. Does it say on your walk out statement? What was it for?

Melatonin is a sleep aid not appetite aid

Maropitant is a used to prevent vomiting and nausea:

Interesting, I'd never heard of it before!

Convenia is an antibiotic injection that stays in the kitty's system for two weeks fighting infection, and can cause loss of appetite.

Capstar is a pill. It's the closest thing to a miracle pill I've ever heard of as it pretty much kills all adult fleas instantly. They actually just drop off the cat's body. And continues to kill adult fleas for 24 hours.

Revolution will kill any fleas as they hatch in the environment and jump onto her. It also will kill roundworms and hookworms but she should have also been given droncit or drontal for flea induced tapeworms.

You will need to work on de-fleaing your home,(vacuum daily, scrub all surfaces that are scrubbable) and if you have other pets they ALL need to be treated with some form of spot on flea treatment, either Frontline Plus, Advantage Multi, or Revolution (use the cat form for cats, dog form for dogs)

And since the other parasites (tapeworm, roundworm etc) are spread from animal to animal the other pets will need to be de-wormed too.

Yea I've been treating everybody in the house with revolution for 2 months. their 3rd dosage is Sept 9th but the vet said I should give Meatloaf her dosage 48 hours after the capstar was administered.

She ate a little can food today

She has diarrhea still

The diarrhea could be from the parasites, or a side effect from the convenia and/or the Maropitant. I'm glad to hear she is eating again.

You can give her a probiotic to help her system cope with all these chemicals that may be causing the diarrhea.

You can use Benebac, probios or fortiflora. Benebac and probios are in gel form, I use probios but I know many who like benebac. Fortiflora is a powder and a bit more expensive. All are tasty to most cats.

... which is mother's milk, when we adopted a seriously under-nourished flea bitten, infection-ridden, worm-infested kittten. It's a nutritional supplement that gives them a huge boost. I prefer the brand the vets have (straight up pwder, not capsules, dissolves easier, but expensive) but you can get Colostrum capsules of the stuff at any good health food store (e.g. brand is Now). Break open the capsules and mix with water to make a rich paste and dropper it into your kitty. This is extremely rich wholesome stuff. It may be too rich at first and they may barf or introduce "dire-rear", so I would go slowly.

Eventually she gew up so strong and healthy, with a penchant for getting her head stuck in the Colostrum jar which she no longer is allowed since she is OK.

The other supplement is PROBALANCE Feline. All the amino acids, and everything else. Awesome stuff.

Royal Canin Special 33 smells like cookies to me and my cats LOVED it. My big cat loved it so much he gained about 3 pounds in the 2 months I fed it. Might be worth a shot!
