..for the first time ever. You know, fake name and all that. Under the radar. Just snoopin' around.

There have been a few people I'd wanted to get in touch with lately from High School, so I managed to find my way around the site enough to look them up. I was taken aback by what I found, however; the kids I knew in High School had been replaced by a slew of 30-somethings, and the occasional 40 year old.

As an aside, I am also 40. Which sucks enough, in and of itself.

But they're not supposed to be, you see. I'm not gonna lie to you, I wasn't prepared to see that. Wasn't prepared to face reality, I guess.

That's what I do; I put people in a very specific time/space box that I have a real problem deviating from. I isolate and iconify moments, and forget that there's actual growth to life. A certain immaturity to that, but hey, acceptance is worth something, right?

Anyone else know what the hell I'm talking about?

I think she's saying they were supposed to stay the same age as the last time she saw them, not get older along with her.

No, no. They're all the same age as me. Nothing out of the norm. I'm just not dealing well with seeing them evolve.

I'm hoping to find one person that can share my dysfunction.

Exactly. 'Cause, like, that also affirms that I'm getting older. How am I supposed to remain in a state of suspended adolescence with all of this maturation going on?

But do you yourself look as old as them?, because i got a shock when i saw some of my old school friends on facebook. They looked 10 years older than me, but that might be because they don't wear makeup?

Well...really, it's not so much about looking better or even younger, just that everyone is different, with real lives, their own kids, etc.

It may be more about feeling left in the dust and just never really "getting it", but whatever the case, it sucked. "Moving on" was never a strong suit of mine.

Do you feel left out because they have the kids etc...

Yeah, maybe. I've always known that was never going to be my thing, so I don't know why it was so traumatic. Maybe because for people of that ilk, their kids are touchstones to youth and youthful things, and for the others, it's just...different.

I am tempted to go to my 35th high school reunion in October and ask "Who are all these old people?".

Then I see that old hag in the mirror looking back at me in the morning.

I completely understand! I can tool along all day, just fine....then, happen to glance in a mirror, and think, "What the heck!?! Why is my mother looking at me???"

While 30 is only looming closely by for me, I know what you mean. I still get weirded out whenever someone I remember being an infant is graduating high school or even getting married. I always think "Weren't you just wearing a diaper a few years ago?!"...

I think everyone does that. When I see some of my younger cousins that I haven't seen in a long time I'm like "since when are you an adult", I remember them as the kids they were when I last saw them...
one of my childhood friends who is 4 years younger than me had gotten married, when I heard and I had such a shock, because I thought "she couldn't possibly be married she's only in middle school"...but no it's only that I last saw her when she was in middle school...

Oh yeah. I seem to have missed something when I look at my old friends from school etc. They have had kids, gotten married, divorced, bought houses, sold them.. Somehow I have managed to avoid all that.

Well, I was mistaken as a 17 and 19 year old again yesterday, so maybe I'm just acting more like a teenager because apparently I look like one.

Yep! Sure do!

I signed up for facebook last year and reconnected with all of my high school friends. I must say that we have all turned out to be successful in our lives/careers, some more than others, but successful none-the-less.

It was a real trip to meet up with one of my best friends from high school though! Man! Was I ever nervous! But it all turned out well. Other than a few wrinkles, she still looks exactly the same! Same hair colour, style, figure! She has lost her Russian accent though!

Too funny!

But yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. There are certain people who were in your life at one point, who, in your mind, never age. They're frozen in time. Facebook has been a great thing, but it has also been a big fat reality check about how much time has passed. The people who you partied with, and got in trouble with in HS or college are now nearly unrecognizable middle aged people. I don't like having to think of myself that way, but unless I plan to live until nearly 100 and beyond, I am. Sometimes that hurts!

Also, if I hear myself telling people that "time goes so fast" one more time, I might slap myself in the face!
