SOPHIE: Came from a vet nurse when the owner didn't want Sophie's Mum or her siblings back ......Their loss, my gain!

JACK: The Cats Protection when he was found under a bush with his Mum and siblings

Abby came to live with me in October 1998. I had Chynna
at that time and I was going to be switching to 12 hour shifts. I thought it was a long time to be away and leave Chynna alone. So I wanted to get her a companion. My friend's daughter's former room-mate had a cat that had kittens and she had 1 kitten left. So I adopted her sight unseen, and she brought Abby (already named) over to my apartment where she has lived every since.

Fafeena, Slinky, Tabitha, Goat-Head, Cow, Twitch, Dorian Grey (Dory), Billy Bob, & Tony Bob were all born on the farm (all farm cats are now S/N). Nemo showed up one day, someone's intact tom farm cat who wandered to the wrong place & lost his nuts!

Ophelia Rose & Lily were both born to who knows where. Lily was too young to be away from her mom & Ophelia Rose was a feral.

Molly, Margo, & Squishy were all "shelter rejects" no one wanted. Margo & Molly had health/behavior issues, after many months of not getting adopted we were running out of options. Squishy was going to be euthanized the next morning b/c of ringworm (which turned out to be "bed sores").

Lola & Gumby I got "stuck" with after fostering - no one else would adopt them. I love them, but that means I cannot foster anymore, period. It's hard to have to euthanize cats I could otherwise save if I didn't have them.

Eden I took in a pregnant cat from someone on TCS - their crummy neighbor took poor care of her. When I got her she had balance issues, was hungry & dehydrated. She's a gorgeous sweet Siamese girl now, and I am *so* happy to have her.

Katie was an orphaned kitten found in a woman's garden in Belgium where I was stationed in the Army at the time. She advertised the kitten for adoption on AFN (American Forces Network) and several people called who were interested in adopting the kitten, but I was the one lucky enough to bring her home.

Gracie was the only surviving kitten born to a feral cat in a local neighborhood. Her mother was TNR'd and I adopted Gracie.

Peter and Claire were trapped as feral kittens with their littermates when they were 3-4 months old. I had just starting volunteerting with TNR/rescue group and helped socialize them. They were adopted together a couple of months later but returned in two weeks because Claire was too "shy" and Pete was "vicious." (He's actually one of the sweetest, most gentle cats I've ever met.) I then adopted Pete and Claire was adopted by a family who returned her a month later when they had to move. Claire was then adopted by a priest I worked with who loved her dearly. Unfortunately, he died just six months later and, since I'd promised to take care of Claire if anything happened to him, I adopted her myself.

My childhood cat was from a box outside of the grocery store that said "free kittens". my mom couldn't resist since my sister wanted a cat so dearly. (my dad had said no way at breakfast that morning
)

He was a beautiful orange tabby that was super friendly and an amazing mouser. (my dad was really sad when he passed) and my parents have since resuced two more cats.

My two:

Moo: was rescused from an abusive situtation by the groomer. Him and his brother were taken to a groomer because the owner couldn't get rid of the fleas. She tried to do it herself but left moo too long in the flea dip. The groomer took one look at the cats and took them to the vet. The vet called the owner and she refused to pay for the flea treatment the vet did and wanted her cats back. The vet said no...you either pay or you sign the cats over to us. (they did not want to release the cats back) since she could care less she said fine keep them. Moo was in terrible shape. He was 3 paws in the grave according to my sister who worked at the vet. He was in such sorry shape that they didn't think he would live the night so instead of putting him in a cage they just left him in a basket by the front desk because they wanted him to pass in comfort. The next morning he popped out of the basket and was walking around the front office. The vet treated him and my sister called me. My ex at the time wouldn't let me have him (even though he was exactly what i wanted) but my mom know somehow that our relationship was about to end and adopted moo. A week later it did. I moved back home and moo adopted me. Or as my dad told me...moo needed me as much as i needed him.

My sister adopted moo's brother and the vet is very happy to see these two kitties are living the good life and are now spoiled and happy house cats. But both have lasting problems from the abuse they suffered.

Tilly: Tilly was rescued from the same vet as moo. She was part of a litter that was found under the porch and brought in. In fact the vet isn't even sure if she was part of that litter or just another stray that got caught up. She was TINY (still is) but was a sweetie. She was being badly beat up by the other cats in the litter (who were mean...they were named after characters in the exorcist they were so mean) so the vet put tilly in her own cage. when i moved out of my parents moo got depressed because he was used to playing with my mom's cat. SO I mentioned to my sis I was looking for another cat. She texted me that friday with tilly's picture and a message "I need a home". I went down that afternoon and took her home the next day. 6 months later I asked about hte other cats in the litter. They managed to calm them down a little but never enough to be adopted as housecats. A lady came in and adaopted the rest of them and they are now living happily as barn cats.

Tilly was very lucky...she has a thyriod condition and would have starved to death if I didn't take her in and was so doting.
I felt she was too thin after a year and bugged the vet to run some tests. He agreed and now she is a happy, healthy diva kitty who has moo wrapped around her little claw!
and he LOVES her.

Such sweet stories

Chickster came to my jobsite in the engine of a co-worker (who knew he had an unfixed female who had kittens, I wonder if he didn't put her in there AFTER he got to work, then called me out there knowing how much I love animals) and claimed "My hands are too big, yours are small, you get it." And out popped Chickster at 3 weeks old! Sleepy! Thank God she didn't get hurt (if she was in the engine for the whole ride, I have my suspicions
)

Boo was from a backyard breeder, and the 4 (Bobbie-Jo, Mississippi, Abra la Boca and Rocky Balboa) are "neighborhood cats" -- strays. They are all sleeping (save for Rocky, he's mad at us for feeding other cats) on my backporch on my patio table under an umbrella and rub on each others heads. I am glad they get along so well. <3 Somehow I seem to get animals when I'm in most need of one, not really when they're in most need of me .. isn't that strange?

Even though I have 9, the answer is easy--they were all strays! Five were found (over a period of 5 years) where I work. I must be a cat magnet...

I responded to a Craigslist, free kittens post. The next day I met a guy with a kitten in a duffel bag at a subway station, and there I found the love of my life, Maia!

I've only owned one cat. I have to admit, I've always been a dog person, by far. When BF moved in, I already had my two dogs and they were and are very attached to me. BF felt left out and decided he wanted his own pet.
He had to convince me that a cat would be a good addition, because I was leaning more towards getting him a fish or hamster. LOL. Two dogs was enough for me and a cat seemed out of the question. However, I finally gave to him and we went down to the local humane society. That's where we found miss Blossom.

Dusty came in 2000 a few weeks after I lost Orfie to a five-week unknown illness. I sent my husband & two oldest kids to the pound, and my only request was that they get a kitten, and make it male (I still had Orf's littermate Annie, and didn't want to put two females together). Dusty ran out of the cage when they opened it, and for the next five years or so, never stopped. He's slowing down some now.

Mickey came in 2005 a month after I lost Gray in a cat fight (unbelievably). A family friend brought him to me from the pound, an act which infuriated my husband (he wanted to get a dog, didn't like having a cat thrust upon the family). At the time I had Annie & Dusty, Annie was 17 but "nursed" Mickey (she'd been spayed at 5 months). It was so sweet. Dusty and Mickey became good buddies, and I can't imagine life without Mickey.

Scaredy was my introduction to ferals, and was locked in our garage for a night before my kid found her in 2008. She was a beautiful, almost-grown kitten, and a bag of bones. And TERRIFIED of everything. She decided she didn't mind food, though, and I fed her across the street under my neighbor's fence (where she appeared twice daily on cue). I brought her in a month later and complete chaos erupted, because she was one aggressive kitty cat. Spaying and time have taken care of that. Now she's just skittish - especially around men. Dusty and Mickey tolerate her, but they aren't buds.

Hydrox - I bought him for $2.00 from one of the neighbor kids way back in the late 70s. He lived to be 20 years old and we had to put him to sleep when he developed breast cancer.

Whisper and Bootser (sisters) - Bootser came to the house first. When she told Whisper that there was some pretty good food at our place, Whisper came along. We ended up cat-napping both of them. That was 16 years ago and they're both still here.

BooBoo and Ms. Pepe (brother and sister) - Are the last two cats from Whisper's last litter of kittens. She didn't tell us she was pregnant when she came to live with us; we found that out a few weeks later. They are now 14 years old.

Banshee - The feline love of my life. When Pita, one of Whisper's kittens from a prior litter, died, I was distraught. DH found an ad in the paper for free kittens and we went down to see them. I literally pulled my little girl away from her mom's nipple and brought her home. She was amazing, just amazing. She died last year from a heart attack due to asthma and thyroid problems. She was one month shy of her 14th birthday. Everybody has a
baby; she was mine. I worshipped the ground that girl walked on.

Da Pumpkin-Boy - The ladies where DH works had found him as a little guy with big chunky paws, orange stripes, and the sweetest disposition. They fed him, but it was getting close to Halloween and nobody wanted to take him home. DH took the carrier into work, plopped him in it, and took him to the vet to be de-balled. I went down later on that night, told him I was his new mom and that he would have a happy life with us. Little did we know....he developed leukemia when he was about 3 years old. We tried to help him, but the vet had to come to our house; he was put to sleep on our bed. He was a darling little boy.

Amber Louise - One of the ladies I know from my planning commission work had found a tiny little orange tiger baby and gave her to me. Amber will be 8 years old in November. We call her our psychotic kitty b/c she's a few whiskers short of a full set sometimes.

And Mollipop - When we took BooBoo to the vet for a check-up back in the spring, the receptionist asked me if I wanted to see some of the kittens they had. She knew that I was really hurting from Banshee's death. After a bit of pressuring I went back to the kitten room. And there was Miss Pop! And it was love at first sight. After spending time with her at the vet, three times a week for about 90 minutes or so at a time, Molli and I bonded and she came home when she was about seven weeks old....the vet called me and told me to come down and get her a week early b/c every time somebody walked to the kitten area, Molli thought it was me and she'd started crying. They felt that, at that point, she just needed to come home. Mollipop just turned six months old....for her birthday? She got spayed!
Poor little girl. She's had her stitches removed and is doing well. And she is just adorable!

Lucky- I stepped out my front door. I thought I heard a kitten cry. I was just about to take another step and I heard it again, I looked down and there was newborn Lucky laying on my lawn. We search everywhere there were no more kitties.

Gus- was a feral boy born under the neighbours house. I had been feeding his semi-feral Mom. I came home one day to see a tom cat trying to kill him on my lawn. I scared the tom away. I phone Dh at work and told him what happened, he said you have two choices. 1- bring him in the house 2- let nature take it's course. I put down a bowl of milk, Mom came running and so did Gus. I grabbed him and put him in my basement. He scratched me to bits and bit me. He is now a big fluffy baby.

Some sad stories
But some happy ones too!

Guppy- my black/white old man was a gift to my husband(then boyfriend) many years ago from his sis-in-law. He was the craziest kitten I had ever seen. He literally climbed walls.

Kit & Tiger were from my husbands(my boyfriend at the time) sis in law. She had cats that had kittens. They are not from the same litter but technically are siblings as they do have the same mother ( just a few years apart) My sis in law was not the best about spaying/neutering. But we were young back then. She now spays/neuters her kitties.

Baby was our dumpster kitty rescue. Someone had abandoned her outside a friends apartment. I guess these people lived in a rooming house next door. Every time for about a month, I was over there I noticed this little kitty roaming around obviously hungry (digging through the dumpster). She was very friendly and someone almost grabbed her. I yelled that she was my cat and to put her down. I then marched over and collected her and put her in my friends bathroom and took her home with me that day. She's my polydactyl girl with much cattitude!

Shalimar- I was not looking for him but someone how he found me
I found out about him through my mother in law who insisted I had to have this beautiful little kitten. She had gotten one and begged me to go look because I would fall in love with the other one. (she really wanted the one I got....but her husband liked the one they ended up getting) I was not looking for another kitty but he stole our hearts and I am soo happy he is here. I had even ignored my mother in laws phone call but then the next day she was calling my husband saying we had to have this kitten to come look at hers. So of course I called up the woman with the kittens and went down there that night. He was a bit young (only 6 weeks) but he was also infested with fleas and I didn't want him to end up in someone elses hands or be left with that woman any longer! He didn't come from the best of conditions but he is in a happy home now!
Luckily I was able to get rid of the fleas in one try with the Dawn dish soap mixture.

That's really cute! Banshee was also known as The Queen B. When we would take her to the vet and they would call her name out to be go into the exam room, they referred to her as The Queen B. A couple times, depending on who the exam tech was, she would call out, "We are awaiting Her Royal Highness!" And I would walk into the exam room, carrying The Queen.

All three of mine are littermates from my mother in law. She has a stray that lives around her house, and whenever she has kittens they always end up dying. She feeds them, but momma just isn't so great at it. So, when she told me they were 4 weeks old, and utterly tiny, I told her I would take them. I took three of the four, and tried to find homes for them when they got bigger. That didn't work, and I fell in love with them, so now they are my babies and have a forever home that I know will be forever!

I had a cat named Linus who I have since had to euthanize (August 24, 2009). While he was alive, and while my step-daughter LeAnn was alive (passed away February 15, 2005) she insisted that Linus was lonely - she was right - so I went to the shelter and spent HOURS upon HOURS with a red tabby. Promptly upon bringing him home he wanted nothing to do with me, but everything to do with Linus, LeAnn, and my husband.

Once Linus passed on, Mandarin - what we named the red tabby since I'm deathly allergic to oranges and my husband is assistant produce manager at a local grocery store - and myself were going crazy, so we brought home a cat we named Majel for companionship for us. She just seemed so excited to see us, and always said "hi" so we thought she would be a good fit.

Majel and Mandarin are not as friendly to each other as Linus and Mandarin were. Linus and Mandarin's was a bromance I still marvel at. But anyways, Mandarin's not acting as insane with some companionship.

So that's my stories of the two I have right now.
