I've been thinking about obtaining certification (online, from G.I.A.). I just want to do this for personal enjoyment (I collect and love fine jewelry--it's a hobby, actually), not a career change. (I can't see me making enough money to pay my bills, and I have a great job in the library field; I've been there for decades). I've been wanting to do something with my knowledge and love of gems and jewelry for about 15 years now. Do you have any advice, and/or do you think I'm crazy to want to do this just for fun? Thanks!

You might want to PM Gemlady...Jan works with lots of types of stones.

I know several certified gemologists but it is their living.
Thanks! The G.I.A. site is what I was looking at regarding the courses, etc.
