Anybody here like gargoyles? I love them and have wanted a gargoyle for quite a while now. And I finally broke down and ordered one. He should be ready in 3 weeks or so for us to go down and pick him up. He'll go into the new flower bed in the front yard by the house.

"Rupert" is about 50 inches tall. When he's placed on his pedestal, he'll be a little over 5 feet tall. He's solid cement, so he weighs about 450 pounds, give or take. It would cost $150 for them to deliver him, but DH and my BIL said they can take DH's truck down to pick him up. They said they can put him on our truck using a forklift. My BIL thinks it will take five guys to get him back off the truck and then, using the dolly, moved into his spot in the flowerbed.

And yeah, he's ugly. I wanted one with the unfurled wings and his wings stand straight out. He has gnashed teeth and his claws are wrapped around a ball. I'm going to love having him in the front yard! (One of my GFs asked me if I would wrap a bright red scarf around him for Christmas!)

I called DH to tell him the "good" news and he laughed. He asked me if this was the start of a collection....I said, "Well, you never know!" (I didn't tell him that I found another one that we can put on top of our arbor so that he'll be looking in at the swimming pool. I'll wait a few days and then tell him.
)

Gargoyles are supposed to protect the property they live on and they bring good luck. Am I the only one who loves gargoyles?

I've been threatening to get a couple of gargoyles to put beside the pond for years, and I'm pretty sure "Rupert" is like one I looked at, but decided would be too much trouble to transport. There are some plastic pond pumps in the shape of gargoyles I've got my eye on now.

I would love to see a pic when he gets home!

I would love to have a huge gargoyle but the neighbors think me odd enough, with a fairy house and a Pan statue.

I love gothic style art, so yes, I do like Gargoyles!

However, my "art" collection at home leans more to the light side such as Unicorns and Faeries.

ooh...I love gargoyles and dragons. I have my giant garden dragon and one of my stipulations to DH when we finish the back patio is that I want a small water feature with a gargoyle on it...one of the draconian ones.

Ok, so this is really Theodore, my BIL's gargoyle. But Rupert will be his identical brother (or cousin, as the case may be), so it's OK to post his picture, I guess. I wanted to give you an idea of what he would look like. And I think he's adorable. All right, he's ugly....but adorably ugly!
Including his pedestal, he will be a little over 5 feet tall. Love those wings.

And here is Apex, the gargoyle for the front of the arbor. I'd like to put him on the roof of the arbor so that he'll be looking out over the swimming pool area. This is a link to Toscano's catalog. Apex is really neat. I ordered him last night! (Gargoyles are addictive!)

I love the Toscano catalog; there are dragons and fairies and gargoyles and all kinds of interesting creatures. My heart, though, will always belong to the the gargoyles. Pookie-poo, did you get Dedo from Toscano's? I think I saw him in that catalog....love those crossed toes! Ms. Freya, there's a big garden dragon in Toscano's, too; he comes in 3 pieces. One of my GFs is now thinking of buying him for her perennial garden.

We'll have to check out gargoyle pumps; DH has been thinking of adding a pond to our garden in the back yard. I'd love to have a gargoyle fountain.

Now, I have to start looking for a Penn State Nittany Lion statue for DH. He's always talked about putting a lion in the yard. When I told him about Rupert, he reminded me of his "need" for the lion. So that's next on my list; it may become part of DH's Christmas present this year.

I already lined-up my "moving guys". It will cost me some grilled pizza and some beer. And cookies....I know DH's cousin mentioned chocolate brownies last night when I talked to him. LOL! (And DH, who is still in Vegas...he'll be home on Friday...said that he's never leaving me alone again!!
)

Anyway, there is Theodore/Rupert. Pretty cool!
