Meet Sid

I just adopted Sid this last Saturday. He was so quiet on the 1 1/2 hour drive home. Not a single peep. It took a few days for him to adjust and start feeling comfortable to come out more. He is so affectionate and such a great cat. He likes to talk to me when he wants me to pet him.

Yeah, he is a big boy. I would guess about 15lbs. He is still a little skittish, but he is starting to come around. He got to meet my GF last night and suprisingly, he was extremely friendly with her. We were watching TV and he came out and jumped on the couch with us. His hair is very fine and likes to float around a bit which she did not appreciate getting in her mouth, but she does like how nice he is.

He happened to find a small hole leading to a section inbetween the cabinets and dishwasher in the kitchen as a hiding spot. I am working on getting him to stop going in there. He is very resilient though. The cardboard I put up to block the hole was pulled away this morning. Guess, I may need to get some wood or chicken wire and screw that in to block it.

Other than that, he is doing great. Very suprised at how fast he is coming along. He has such the sweetest and subtle meow when I walk by. He loves being brushed and his fur is as soft as a rabbit At night, he likes to wake me up by walking on me or nudging his face into my hand.

Melinda was saying to slowly ween him off of the junk food he was accustomed to. However, he has done absolutely great with Science Diet dry food and a small can of Fancy Feast for dinner around 5:30p. He likes to sit on me, but he is still a bit resistant if I try to hold him.

Awww.... he is coming right aroung and feeling home already! That's wonderful!
I would do the slow transition on the food.... BTW - you will learn soon that Science Diet is probably not much better than what she is feeding... just much more expensive
About the Hair: I highly recommend the Furminator - and.... it is on deal on Amazon for $7.40, which is UNBELIEVABLE!!! Get it NOW!!! The regular price is $34 something. It will reduce shedding drastically when used once a week - almost completely!

I would also get a good metal comb... But his fur shouldn't matt....

Congrats again!!!

I was just thinking whether you got Sid or not - glad you did! He looks cute! Glad to hear he's settling in nicely and your gf seems to like him.

I have the Furminator and the Zoom Groom. I use both, and got a lot of hair out of both! I usually use the ZG first and Tallulah loves the massage when I use it on her (circular motion). Then I use the furminator to brush her. The only thing she likes better than being pampered is food lol.

I followed your other thread, but didn't have an opportunity to respond. But, I'm so glad I opened this thread because, otherwise, I would have missed out on seeing your absolutely stunning cat, Sid .

He's got the baby blues you were interested in and he's just gorgeous all around. He really is an amazing looking cat. He sounds like he's got a wonderful personality as well and he appears to be acclimating to his new home rather well. It sounds like both you and Sid were the big winners this time.

Thank you for adopting. I hope Sid is everything you ever wanted (and needed!) in a kitty. And, I think your girlfriend will come around -- who could resist such a face? Sid would have me wrapped around his little paw in no time! Congratulations on your kitty. And, please, more pics !

What handsome fellow Sid is. His name really suits him too.

The floating hair may diminish with your continued grooming and as Sid gets even more used to being in your home...my boy had the 'floatiest' hair you could imagine when I got him - to the point I felt covered in it, and he's a DSH, but looking back, it had to be nerves - once he realized he was home for good, the floating decreased remarkably.

I've got the Furminator (love it!), a zoom groom, and a soft brush. I use the Furminator once a week or so, and the soft brush daily, but mine are both DSH.

Sid is gorgeous - I'm so happy you found each other!

He has blue eyes, I love them!

Glad you got him - he sounds perfect for you. But I'm concerned on the food. Science Diet is NOT good quality food. You would do better on Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance or Royal Canin instead. And also upgrade the canned food - FF is not great either.

Other then that, sounds like its working out well.

any updates? New pictures?

I absolutely gasped aloud and started tearing up. Your cat is SO gorgeous. I can't imagine you not falling promptly in love with that face, and don't blame you at all for bringing him home.

It definitely did not take long at all for him to come around. He still goes under the bed on occassion, but is coming out much more. I heard ragdolls like to follow their owner around and I would never have privacy in the bathroom again. They weren't kidding, LOL. His personality is absolutely the greatest. When I am watching TV, he likes to chill next to me and stare at the TV, like he actually understands it, LOL. When I'm on the computer, he will usually relax on the bed behind me or under my desk. He is very quiet, until I get up. Then it is 100% talk time.

He had slight digestive problems when I first got him, but the Science Diet and FF I have been feeding him has seem to calm that down a lot. How come Science Diet and FF are such bad food choices? My parent's cats eat that and they have never had any problems. They were the ones who actually recommend it.

His shedding is minimalizing too. I have been using a wire brush for long-haired cats daily...oh, and he LOVES it, hehe. I almost don't have to do anything and let him rub up against it himself, LOL.

What a gorgeous boy! Congrats! I second Carolina's suggestion for a Furminator. They are worth it!

Poor Sid developed a URI I believe. Last couple of days he has been sneezing up a storm and his eyes look a little puffy. I've got a Vet visit scheduled tomorrow, so hopefully it isn't anything too bad.

He is in great spirits though. Still very talkative and loves to stay with me To keep his fur in check, I brush him every evening. I am beginning to think he is addicted to that brush, LOL. If I walk anywhere near the cabinet I keep the brush in, he is talking up a storm and gets all excited, LOL. Brushing him is a huge task though. His eyes won't let go of the brush. He loves it around his chin and will move his head anywhere that brush is, haha. Making it a bit difficult at timesto brush the rest of his body. He whines a little too when I put the brush away. Too funny though

Sid loves his brushing.

I will be watching for your post vet update tomorrow.

I read your other thread where you were looking for a cat and just want to say congrats on getting such a beautiful special boy! I'm glad he is settling in well and i hope he will soon be feeling better

Hi Mike!

It must been brought up by the stress of moving... Ask the vet about putting him on L-Lysine. You can probably get it from them; I get mine online as it is cheaper and powder, 100% pure, so I just mix it to their water - it keeps URI at bay here in my house.
Good luck tomorrow

Update from the Vet visit:

Sid was quite nervous going to the Vet, but he was a good boy on the table. The checkup was good as he had no severe problems. Just a confirmed URI which I was given some pill meds, Lysine, and eyedrops to give him. I pill popper is impossible to give him direct since he has an amazing talent for closing up his throat and salivating to push the pill out. However, if I leave it sitting on top of his dry food bowl, he eats it just fine, LOL. The Lysine he has difficulty taking as well, but if I mix it in his water, he does just fine.

Lastly, the eye drops are a fun one to give him. I have to be sneeky and brush him for a bit, then I'll back him inbetween my legs and hold his head. Then I can get the eye drops in. He usually hates me for about an hour after that, but forgives me afterwards when I offer to brush him

Good job getting Sid right to the vet. URI are common in newly adotped cats.

Queen Eva (my new kitten) was showing some slight discharge in eyes and nose, only once in a very great while, not enough to cause concern, and just white, no yellow or green. I started her on l-lysine (I have a cat with herpes eyes who has been taking it for years) three days after the came home, (so she's been on it 10 days) and I haven't seen any discharges at all in the past few days.

L-lysine is great at controlling (not curing) herpes, but also gives a good boost to the immune system.
