Greetings and hopefully some of you can help me as I am at my wits end. Two months ago my fiancee and I decided to get a kitten to keep our three year old cat company. We heard all the benefits of having two cats and went and looked at about ten rescue places/pounds. I fell in love with a little girl immediately at actually the first place. It was important to me to support a rescue place.

I brought her home and in a couple of days, she had diarrhea. I took her to the vet, and she had coccidia. So gave her treatment for that. she got better then got worse. Vet gave me more medicine for coccidia. Then after still not getting any better, the vet tested her again and she tested positive for girardia and another parasite, something like cryptosparidium. Gave her medicine twice a day two weeks. No improvement

New vet has her on a medicine two help her stomach. It is a process. In the meantime my older cat has also been infected. Friday, there was a problem with her ears and it looks like, ringworm. My other cat has it on his mouth. My new vet says there is something wrong with my little kittens immune system. I like him, but don't understand why my older cat is also getting it. They both now have nothing but the runs. They are not always hitting the litter box and I clean several messes a day.

It is getting to be too much and I am not sure what to do. The girl is the sweetest thing in the world but at a thousand dollars later and more mess cleans then I could ever describe the vet is not even sure what is going on. She never acts sick but she obviously is. I love her, but obviously I am just unsure of where to go or what to do. She has tested negative for FIV and leukemia twice already.

Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Has the vet done a fecal test again? Are you giving lysine? I use the NOW brand powdered form, but you can get the tablets in the vitamin/supplement section of the store and crush them. Add them to wet food with a dash of water and they'll dissolve. I'd probably do 500mg twice a day. Also, you might want to get a second opinion.

Your older cat is getting it because many kitty diseases are contagious. Ringworm can spread to humans as well, so be sure to wash your hands after handling your cats. Don't let them share food dishes and wash them in hot soapy water after each feeding.

He has not re-done a fecal test saying he is sure the medicine would have gotten rid of everything. I have had a second opinion and really like this second vet...but

i will look into what you mentioned. Right now we are giving tylan powder. In addition I am taking her once a week for a B12 shot.

She is amazingly sweet, but at this point..i am so frustrated, especially when not hitting the litter box which i clean twice a day. She has pooped while am holding her and you can tell she does not even feel it.

Poor little girl, and poor you - my boy was given Tylan powder when he developed loose bowels - I've got to tell you, for us, it seemed like a Godsend. The vet and I also think there was some relationship to some new prescription food as well as something else up with this tummy. When I took DAnte off the wet fishy CD, he seemed better - but it's still a trick making sure he gets the best balance, for him, of wet and dry CD.

It's so terribly frustrating - like trying to diagnose and cure IBS in a human. And, my girl had bowel issues when she was on Clavomox (an antibiotic) - but I sympathized with her, as I have the same issues with antibiotics.

Try to hang in there - the bitty is no more comfortable with the situation than you are. Oh, you might try Kitten Attract litter - she may be associating discomfort with the box and/or regular litter.

But bless you and your family for trying so hard.
