I am in the unique (for me) position of actually having finished a piece of my cross stitch!
I've been working on it for several years, and it's quite creased where I've folded it in between working on it. I'm starting to think also that the creases are also a little bit dirty. I've already tried ironing it (dry) but that didn't work. Any ideas on if I should clean it (and how) and get those creases out? Thanks so much, maybe I'll post a pic when I frame it!!!

handwash in a mild soap - don't put too much pressure on the stitching...then iron dry. ironing it dry will take awhile - you might try pressing the piece between towels 1st to bring it from wet to damp.

If you have problems removing the creases, you can spritz it with a bit of starch or dampen it, roll it up, then put it in the freezer. Leave it overnight, then iron it dry the following day.

What did you stitch? Do you have a pic of it yet? I'm an AVID stitcher and love to see other people's work!

Here's a photo of a finished one. I have to get those creases out before I can sew on the 3 Debbie Mumm buttons.

I would use a mild detergent like Woolite and let it soak a bit in the sink and gently agitate.
Rinse with cold water. Lay the piece flat and roll up in a bath towel to soak up some of the water. I would let dry a bit before attempting to iron. turn piece upside down and do not iron on finished side. The creases should disappear!

Very pretty!

You can also use Orvus or a needlework product called "FabriCare" which is Orvus. I think Orvus is available at feed stores.

I like the feed store idea! That's where I buy my cat food. Although I don't think it's open on Sunday...

All I have is Tide and hand soap right now...sigh.

hand soap [liquid] might be ok. otherwise, i'd say use dishwashing liquid.

I know that problem!!!

I tend to "allmost" finish things, or even finish them, but not hide the ends or putting the things together (if I am knitting or crocheting). It's just so much more fun to start something new!

I love your piece! Congratulation on the finish!
