Our 5 year old cat Hayley, has Asthma, which hasn't been diagnosed by a vet yet because she freaks out in cars or leaving the apartment at all. Her brother died from an asthma atack when we took him to the vet for his yearly shots. The vet didn't know what was wrong with him so he died. When I got home I did a google search on his symptoms and knew within about 15 seconds why he died. I didn't understand why the vet didn't catch this? Anywho, I don't want to take Hayley out of the apartment at all because it's a huge health risk. We are moving 5 hours away next year and I don't know how we are going to move her. I'm very scared to sedate her, and I don't want to take her to the vet. Please help.

Then how do you know it's asthma? Coughing fits can be caused by other things such as heartworms, lung worms, and heart problems. Heart problems could easily present in two cats from the same litter if congenital. Likewise, if you live in an area that has problems with heartworms it wouldn't be inconceivable that both cats could get infested. (lungworms need the cats to have been outside for a bit to come across the hosts)

And your vet wouldn't catch any of these, or even asthma, unless you point them in that direction. You have to tell the vet your cats day to day symptoms and behavior because unless very ill, they can miss this stuff. To test for them you need to ask for the tests to be done and have x-rays (and more) taken.
First step here is for you to talk to your vet ASAP.

I agree with this advice. I have a cat who has been diagnosed with asthma. According to my vet, coughing of any kind is bad for cats, and it needs to be controlled (or ideally, prevented) with an appropriate treatment.

Good luck to you and your girl.
