Since I am going back to school in September, and will be gone 2 days a week, I have gotten a roomate. He is the director of finance at my work and is a fussy 50+ man, and in a word - high-maintenance.
I haven't given a lot of thought to my cat situation before as it has been just me, or me and my ex, living at home. Now I am being made aware of what it is like for someone who is not necessarily a cat person. They are LOUD! I have two females in heat right now, and one male who is serenading them. The females are loose in the house and the male is in a monster sized enclosure downstairs. I have just finished building another enclosure, made from two uptown dog kennels, for a new cat I am bringing in to be bred to Tsekani and my basement looks a bit like a zoo. On another note, things get very creative when it comes to separating cats that need to be separated. My house can become a bit of a maze.
My new plan is to stuff the old furnace vent holes from the basement into his bedroom to try and dampen the noise (and smell when Tsekani pees). I keep up with the male pee by using Dr. Elsey's Senior cat litter and it works really well, but you can still smell it if you are not used to cats.
My two kittens are eight weeks old, and you'd be surprised at how much they sound like elephants when they run from one end of the house to the other. They are penned in my room when I can't supervise them but when they are loose their purpose in life is to destroy as much property as possible.
For those of you with perfect females and non-spraying males, you have my envy. I love my cats and my hobby, and wouldn't give it up for anything, but it is definitely an adventure.
PS - This is not meant as a complaint and no-one needs to post about, 'that's breeding cats, get used to it.' I am used to it and I do love it. This is just a bit of a look into the life of breeding cats in your home.
