im trying to take the cities new program a step farther. not many people are willing to pay for a feral cats spay or neuter out of their own pocket even if it only costs 10 for a male and 20 for a female. so i emailed the mayors office and asked why not set up lil collection things at vet offices, pet stores, feed stores to collect donations to put towards the spays and neuters and get people to volunteer to help with the trappings and transportation of the ferals? i mean i myself wouldnt be able to do transportations icould pay that amount but id be broke in less than 6 months due to the amount of ferals auburn has. its outrageous. if all my cats are spayed neutered why cant other people do it? seriously we have a low cost clinic...40 for male and 50 for a female...thats cheap!!

I would point out that those inexpensive neuters save the city money, in the long run.

Good luck. I've tried similar requests here in Clarksville, and got no results. I would start with going to local vets and asking them to set up their own donation jars. Then once you've gotten a few to do this, take their names to the mayor's office and tell them you'd like to get this into a city-wide organization. Ask convenience stores if you can set them up as donation points, as well. Maybe try to set up a non-profit website or something to collect donations and connect people with TNR participating vets? You can apply for non-profit, tax exempt status too, but I'm not sure exactly how.

It all comes down to the vets though. If you can't at least get some signed letters from the vets saying they'd be happy to "enroll" in such a program, then the local government tends to just push you aside and say they've got better things to spend their time and money on.

Again, good luck. If you can get the TNR system up and running, I feel there's a lot of hope for getting some good no-kill shelters up too. Best of luck and thank you for what you're trying to do.

we have a tnr thing but they NEVER answer their phone. then they want to charge people to borrow their trap some of the people i know are elderly and cant afford to put a deposit on their traps.

then the city did a $10 for male and $20 for female ferals...well not many people know about it and many do not want to fork out money for cats that are not theirs. im willing to do that with the ferals around here. but im only one person each neighbor hood ive lived in has had a feral population that once i moved at least half the cats where s/n and i had it setup with neighbors to continue their care.
