Tonight my husband went out to give our chickens a snack...and my husband rushes in and says "Look what I just found"...and of course I get worried...he likes to come in with toads, and once a few months ago found an badly injured squirrel....so of course I think the worst.
Nope...he walks in holding this baby orange kitten. He is about 10 weeks old, bright orange with medium length fur. Poor thing is STARVING. We can feel every bone in his body, and he has matted hair and scabs like he has been attacked.
It is so sad.
I swear....animals in need just FIND us.
We cannot afford a vet visit for it right now. We can barely afford to get our strays we are already caring for fixed and adopted out...so this is a struggle but we need to keep it safe, so we of course brought it in. Right now, he is eating food. and GROWLING. He ate about 3/4 a can of can food, and is currently eating a big cup of dry food...and a big bowl of water. He growls if we come to near while he is eating bc he is so hungry, and right now he is standing in the food dish eating and looking around to make sure no one comes near. Luckily we just picked up a free small litterbox last week, so we can keep him in the bathroom for a few days...
I am just stressed now, and hoping we can find it a home, and worried about the kitten and laughing about how we always seem to find the strays....
Just wanted to share..

Just curious...

I just saw "Frank the Tank" in a post on an RV site today. Not you guys, I assume? Frank is a huge black lab.

Nope not us. My husband chose this name bc of Will Ferrells character in the movie "Old School" and I feel a little silly posting with the name as a female bc I assume people originally think I am a male from the name, but no, we don't use this name for anything else, and don't have dogs, and IDK what an RV site is? LOL

Awww! Poor guy. I am glad he found you and I hope he continues to do well. I am sure you will have no trouble finding him a home once he gets used to you and is a little healthier. I have a similar thing happen here, I always seem to have loose dogs come in my yard. I can't just let them run around for fear they will get hit by a car. I have seen that too often when I worked as a vet tech. So I always try to catch them and hold onto them until I find the owner.

Good for you taking him in!

My problem is that I get attached. We have four cats that we need to get fixed, two that we are trying to find homes for to take to once they are fixed...and now another baby that if we have him for a couple months, will need fixed also. The vet care is just expensive, and I know there are low cost places, that is where I go...I am just stressed. I could never leave this kitten outside though, especially injured. He is currently a big fluffball from being washed, and he is so happy! He is playing with cat toys in the living room with me. When he had to poo, he meowed and I took him to the box and he went fine! I am getting attached already and it is sad. I wish we had more money, I would totally try to keep him...well and I also work from home doing daycare, and I just have a feeling people will have issues with a daycare where the family has so many cats.
rough night
it makes me sad. at least the kitten is safe for now, and being taken care of. that is the definite plus.

He is too cute. Played with cat toys last night, rolling around on the floor. He stayed in the bathroom all night, and by this morning was crying so loud i could hear him upstairs. He just wanted out. He digs in the litterbox and sprays it all over, so I am hoping we get that fixed before he finds a home. He also growls so loud as he eats. Even if we move near him while he is eating, he growls and swats at air. We figure it is because he was outside and had no food. Aside from his fat food belly, he is so skinny.

Thank you for caring about this stray cat.

Even if he can't be checked over for any medical issues, vaccinated and/or neutered, if he's that skinny with a pot belly, get him dewormed. It could be huge full of worms - and he won't gain weight while you are waiting. The vet/humane society could do this or some places like Farm and Fleet sell it but call a vet to get proper dosing.

You have a wonderful heart and May God Bless You!!! This cat obviously knew there were friends in your home. Good luck to you and kitty !

Thanks for the kind words

I have been in contact with a couple vets about a visit etc.
I also have a friend of a friend coming to see him tonight. I posted on my facebook about this little one, and someone has a friend looking for a kitten. We have exchanged emails and pictures, and she has sent me her vet info and the information as to where she adopted her previous cats. I have left a message with the vet, but the place where she adopted the cats have verified she has both adopted from them and volunteered with them.

He had no belly before we fed him, and has good solid poops. We are keeping him contained, and the woman is coming to see him tonight. If she decides to keep him I am going to keep in touch to verify a vet visit is going to take place, or we will hold on to him for another week until we can afford a visit just to make sure.

Oh and by the way, I am already wishing we could keep this boy. He is so cute and funny. When I walk into the bathroom he just runs up to me for love. He loves the cat toys I put in there for him, and is great at using litter. He is awesome, I wish we were allowed to have more here, or that we had more money to be able to live somewhere where we could have more.

Well.....the person who might have wanted the kitten backed out, I guess her husband didn't want to add a 3rd cat to their family, so we still have him. She is going to try to convince her husband, but I am not hopeful anymore.
My husband and I are pretty much in love with this kitten. We have temporarily named him Frank, (LOL) and after another bath today is a complete furball. His wound is looking so much better and he is so loving.
