Drooling cat?

Hi guys. Me again. Just curious. My outside adopted stray, Boca, is apparently a drooler. My friend has a maine coon looking cat who drools when he is happy, purring and kneading, but I haven't noticed Boca do this before. He was drooling pretty good when he got petting this morning, and it was dripping and being wiped all over me. Is that pretty normal? He is eating fine and is very peppy. I gave him some cat lax because it sounds like he has a hairball (Slight cough every one in awhile like he is trying to puke it up) but the drooling... UGH!!! I was sort of grossed out about it at first ... thx guys

If he's never drooled before I would be concerned that there was something wrong. Either a dental problem or he ate something yucky, or he has been poisoned.

Hope it's not that, and he is just getting comfortable enough with you to "let it all hang out" so to speak.

Drooling was the first symptom Max had when we lost him to acute renal failure. I hope your cat would be okay. If it were me, I would want the vet to check him out.

Blueyedgirl, what were other symptoms your cat experienced? Sorry to hear you lost him

Our male cat drools a little too, when we pet him or scratch his head and he's loving it. Because, usually, when he gets his head scratched, he'll lift his head up and cran his neck, and consequently his mouth stretches open.

Otherwise, he shows no signs of being sick. But now you've got me wondering...

Since its never been a habit in the past I would make appt for vet-but also keep in mind rabies sign is inability to swallow...if its been reported in area or the vets a by the books type you may have to qaurantine the cat-either in your house or at vet/shelter. But many other things medical can cause this(something hurting/swallowed a string/bad tooth)

I had a cat years ago who drooled when kneading/happy so its not always bad news!

My Stormy drooled and I lost her to ARF.
She would do it once in awhile then on Dec 4th 2007 I found her almost dead on the floor with drool everywhere.
It was ARF and she had to be pts the next day.

If this has been a habit all his life I wouldn't think you need to worry. Lots of kitties are drooly loveys.

If it's a new thing, definitely get him checked out at the vet.

(welcome to TCS!)
