Help!! I brought in a pregnant "stray" that was possibly dumped on my lawn

recently (about 3 days ago) took in a stray because she seemed really friendly, I think she was dumped (tends to happen where I live). She is a welcome member of the family now but she is pregnant! We will be having her spayed as soon as the kittens are old enough. But until then I don't really know what to do, I have put her in my laundry room because it is quiet, warm and dim lit, I made her a bed out of an over sized dresser drawer that she rarely leaves, have started giving her kitten food (a lot of it) but I don't really know what I am doing other than mixed opinions off of google.

She has started meowing everytime she sees me and wont stop but that is the only time she meows (never at my husband only me), she has become very, VERY affectionate, her stomach is really big and hard, her nipples are dark pink and swollen and when I am petting her I think I can feel very faint movement in her belly. I cannot afford x-rays right now but next week if still no word I get paid and can afford them at that point. I just need some advice from someone who's been through this before or at least know what they are talking about.

She will be a loved member of my family for the rest of her life and she will be spayed asap. I will also have all of the kittens spayed and neutered before they go to their new homes.

You're doing everything right hun! There really isn't anything more you can do but be there for you if she needs you. Cats know what to do. I bet one day you'll wake up to find she has done everything on her own. You're doing a great thing for this Mama to be! Good luck with her and babies!

Welcome to the Forums!

Tx a lot for helping this cat in need, and her kittens!

You getting a new furry friend as return for your action is only a righteous compensation for your good heart.

You seems to do very well - I trust you will make it well in the proceeding too.
With a little luck you shouldnt get complications.

About the X-rays. I really dont see they are necessary nor useful here. But of course, it is good you do have a contact a good vet as having him as your "house vet."

So contact and agree he will stand by with advices if necessary. And later on doing the necessary shots etc, spayment, etc...
But spare the X-rays money for real emergencies...

Good luck!

It's so great of you to help this poor stray girl!

First thing to do- relax Cat pregnancy and birth is not all that difficult because the mommy cat usually takes care of everything.

What you do want to start by doing is making her a nest with a box or a cat carrier, and filling it with rags or old cloths. Put it somewhere a little private so it seems like a more desirable birhing area. Second is to start her on kitten food for the extra nutrients(feed her this until the kittens are weaned). Give her lots of attention, and gain her trust.

Things you should watch for-

In the last 2 weeks of pregnancy, you can feel the kittens moving in her belly.

Sometimes in the last 48 hours before they're born, you'll be able to get milk from her nipples, but only sometimes.

Watch for a lot of nesting, halt in appetite etc.

When she goes into labor, try to be there for her, soothing her I she wants to be. Contractions are quite obvious, so you should know.
Thanks for helping stop the over population, and giving these kittens good homes.

Not yet but she is definitely ready, the vet came by and he said that it would definitely be within the next 48 hours as she is starting to lactate. She has been in the litter box a lot today and grooming her rear pretty much non stop which I am assuming is normal.

She is meowing a lot more now and will not leave my side except to use the litter box a million times

I am really hoping she has them today, I can't wait to meet them!
