We adopted a cat 3 weeks ago, he was on Iams hairball and Holistic Select (duck) at the foster home (and some wet food, but he doesn't like canned food much).

His foster mum gave me a baggie of the old food, and I slowly transitioned him to Petguard (http://www.petguard.com/cat-products...itten-dry-food) which he ate, and have now slowly transitioned him Wellness Core (about 25-50%). He has so much more energy and is running around all fast much more often! He's 1.5 years or so and just loves to run up and down the stairs, that one day he's going to knock us off the stairs! I'm almost afraid what he'd be like if he's on it 100%! (Yes I'll slowly start giving me some canned food too... foster mum gave me a can of holistic select and he won't touch it...)

Anyone experienced a change in energy level like this, even though Petguard ingredients looked pretty good without much fillers? I am going to try Evo and Fromm as well just to see what works best for him.

(We just adopted a 2nd cat a week ago, but she's recovering from a cold, so I'm almost hoping the 1st cat is not too energetic for her since she wants to rest most of the time, but he wants to play!)

Welcome to TCS!

First off - congratulations on the new addition & thank you for adopting!

Be careful you don't change foods too much. It's hard on his system & could make him sick. If you've tried that many foods since adopting him 3 weeks ago, stick with the Wellness Core for awhile before trying anything new.

As for his energy level, it's not uncommon for them to become very energetic after a settling in period in their new home. For some cats it's after a day, for some cats it's after a month. When I bring home new fosters, it seems to be about a week or so before they settle in & start to "bounce off the walls" in happiness at being in a home.

We feed one of our cats Wellness CORE and I've not seen ANY change in her energy level. Of course, she's about 5.5 years old, too!

Like the previous poster mentioned, I bet it's a combination of good food, a stable home, and getting settled in his new home. It's good that he feels safe enough to run around like a wild kitty!

Please slow down the intro of any new foods... each food should be introed over the course of weeks... Ie come home on food A or combo A leave for about a month

Thanks for the welcome

Oh I don't mean to keep changing new food in a short period of time... they're just the ones I plan to have the cats try in the future (slowly) to find out what they like. I just want to find more than one brand that works, just in case if there's a recall or if the store sells out.
