Cat door with a baby?

Hi all

We have a crawling baby and are considering moving the cat box that is currently in the dining room out into the garage and putting in a cat door for access. Oreo seems to want to be out in the garage a lot lately anyway, so it seems like a logical step to keep the litter box where he can use it and out of reach of the baby.

Has anyone tried this? Are there cat doors available that are too small for a baby to get through, or that have a safety feature to keep baby from getting stuck in it?

The baby is 11 months and large for her age, and the largest cat (Oreo) is about 15 pounds.

Thanks in advance for any ideas/tips/links/etc.

The other 2 cats have a litter box in the spare bedroom; Oreo has access there when the door is open & the baby gate is on it, but gets closed off from there when I feed the other 2 (different diets), and at night when I close the door so they can have their food out all night.

Holland has a cat door into the storage room where her litterbox is, but it says it goes up to 12 pounds. Holland's only 7 pounds. There's NO way an 11-month-old baby could fit through it, but I'm not sure if it would be big enough for Oreo. Here's the link, though:

I could never get Holland to go through the flap unless I was holding it open, so I finally just took it off.

My cat flap instructions said that it goes up to 15 pounds, but my 18 pounder gets through it with no problem. I could never see a baby fitting through that flap. If you are worried about that, put a barricade in front of it so that the cats can still use it, but the baby can't get to it.
