Ever since I miscarried in March my periods have been kind of weird. Most have come like clockwork (ie, 28 days give or take) but I had one that started 10 days after my last one ended. Now, this month, I started spotting only 5 days after the last one. This went on for about a week, and now it's a full blown "time of the month" complete with cramps, tiredness, etc.

I'm calling first thing Monday morning and schedule an exam. The thing is my doctor did not order a D&C after my miscarriage. I thought a D&C was pretty standard but he said since it was so early in my pregnancy and my blood levels dropped so fast it wasn't necessary. Now I'm wondering if that wasn't a mistake.

I'm also wondering if I've progressed to endometriosis. I had a problem similar about 12 years ago and I had the beginnings of it, but that's supposed to be really painful and I really haven't had worse cramps then usual.

It just worries me because my mom had this happen and she didn't get it check out for over a year. Turns out it was caused by cervical cancer. She passed away 14 months after she was diagnosed.

Any experience or thoughts on this?

It takes a while to get back to normal after a miscarriage. Your body is still dealing with the pregnancy hormones, all hormones affect the others, and you body needs time to get them all leveled out again.

I'm glad you are getting checked out right away, but don't worry too much about endometriosis right now. Your endo probably could not have worsened while you were pregnant (the endometriosis shrinks when pregnant). It is possible to have severe endometriosis, though, with no pain; and it's possible to have very little endometrial tissue with lots of pain; pain is not a factor in how severe the endometriosis might be. Even with severe endo (I say this from experience) you can still get pregnant.

Try not to worry too much that what happened to your mom will happen to you. You are two different people and you aren't waiting to have things checked out. I'm sorry about your mom.
Sending healing and healthy vibes for you.

I'm glad you are seeing your doctor so that your questions can be addressed and to put your mind at ease. As Swampwitch said, it takes a while for your hormones to level out. Your body is confused right now, if that's the right way to put it. and blessings. Keep us posted. As for the endometriosis, it's a tricky thing. Sometimes a "light" case can cause severe cramping and other symptoms. And sometimes a heavy case can have mild symptoms. Discuss it with your doctor; a laproscopy can determine the extent of your problem if you decide that it is needed.

I think it's a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor in order to have some blood tests done to check out your hormone levels.

Not all miscarriages require a D&C. D&Cs are only done if the miscarriage was incomplete and "products of conception" were retained. If the Beta hCG was on the decline after the miscarriage, the miscarriage was complete and no D&C would have been necessary.

When you get pregnant your body undergoes some very severe hormone changes and it's normal for it to take some time to adjust back to normal. While many women return to a normal cycle within a couple of months, some take longer because it each woman is different. An important consideration is that stress and grief can play a huge role with a woman's monthly cycle.

I just miscarried 5 weeks ago and still am waiting for my period. I know for some women they go "back to normal" and for others they have wonkie cycles. It's good to get checked and to make sure your beta is down to zero.

I think that, after you talk to your doctor and he examines you, he will tell you that, for some women, it takes time to get your body back to normal and that you'll be OK. It just may take you a little longer.

I'm sorry about your mom.

Thanks guys! I did make an appointment but he can't see me until 9/17. I know it's probably hormonal but this (spotting) just isn't normal for me. Of course I'm also 40 yrs old and my body seems to be betraying me left and right so nothing surprises me anymore.

Calico, if you are concerned about cervical cancer, please ask your physician to send the pap smear to 2 different labs. You will have to pay extra, but it is not expensive and is really worth it for the extra piece of mind. Workers in these labs have to examine a lot of samples and can easily miss cancerous and precancerous cells.

I really don't have anything to add to the good information provided but wanted to reply and say that you are in my prayers on this and also that I am sorry to hear about your mother, as well as the recent miscarriage. Stay strong and positive I'm sure the doctor will help you to determine the cause of the issue and the solution if anything needs to be done.
