Dry FIP, Anemia & Interferon

Thread Starter
Hello,
Juliet was recently diagnosed with dry FIP. She is 10 months old. Her bloodwork displays the typical low albumin-to-globulin ratio (0.2). She also has non-regenerative anemia and bleeding in the GI tract. She is a borderline candidate for a blood transfusion. Thus, her vet has said that Prednisone is not a suitable treatment for her. I've heard some mixed things about Interferon as a treatment - is she even a candidate? Does anyone know how Interferon may impact her red blood cell production?
Thanks for your help.

As long as the FIP stays dry, yes she is a candidate. It can be successful BUT it is a treatment not always a cure.

This is one of the best websites on the web regarding FIP

also check out Dr. Addie's website, she has personal experience with cats with FIP

Best of luck

Not just that, but according to this article
Adverse effects of steroids on cats and dogs

among the long list of adverse effects here is something else that might be very important

Quote:
26) reduced production of interferon (an antiviral compound)
