my senior siamese kitty has had these growth things on the tips of her toes for years now. she is 13 years old now and has had the growths for about 6-7 years. they grow off the tips of her toes and seem to be worse on the outer toes (where your pinkies would be) and are only on her front feet.

i asked the vet about them and she said they are just corns and you can just pull them off, and then she did! it completely shocked me and i have never done that. i asked another vet and she said i could trim them when i trimmed her toenails. i did this one time, when i cut her toenails a few days ago. i didn't trim close to her toe but it was growing out and curling up towards the top of her toe so i trimmed off a little. she bit me when i did that so i am assuming it hurt her.

do any of you have experience with this? if you have a cat like this what do you do about them? she is starting to get them on all of her toes now in the front, not just the outer ones. what do you think?

Ya I had this issue with cat I just put to sleep, her sister, and a unrelated cat. The issue with the cat I euthed (Holly) was even thos she was born and raised with me she was semi feral. she was like that as a baby too. It got to point cutting her "Horns" were stressing her so bad I didnt see any quality of life(hide from mom, other cats at end who she loved as she withdrew more and more.

One thing when you cut them thats fine(toenail clippers) BUT!!!! be careful as you will focus so much on the spot your cutting you may end up knicking her with the other end of the clipper. Went to 3 vets 1 2 years ago and 2 day she was euthed. Trust me that cat was truly unhandable and I have the other 2 I jsut cut them off as needed.

Give lots of treats and praise to make it a positive exp. Also did your vet say how they come about? or have any info as my 3 had theorys just nothing been proven.

no, they didn't give any explanation, that is the frustrating part! i thought that maybe you guys on here would know

i know that i didn't knick the toe beside the one i was cutting because i was cutting the one on her pinkie toe and there are no toes on that side of it
i only cut it about 1/2 way down too since i am nervous about doing it anyway.

i don't usually cut my cats toenails (bad i know) but they only used to scratch on their scratching post so i just left them be. i did check them all the time to make sure they were not getting out of hand, though. but, we just reupholstered the love seat (the couch is next) and she decided to start scratching on it! so they are both getting their toenails cut really short from now on. i will be doing it all the time now so i probably get her more used to getting her toenails cut - although she is a pro at it because she loves me fussing with her toes, she will even let me file her nails! maybe more handling of the corns (or whatever they are) will be easier for me to cut them, and maybe she won't bite me anymore!

thank you for your response!

Only thing I ever thought it MIGHT have been was some sorta of floor cleaner...but even with that more would have had it. If theres alot and worried ask vet about sedating and having her get them all off or see if she will let you do a few while cats knocked out to get hang of it? Had holly had no other issues I would have went that route but being she was to tense I didn't. If I ever get anything definate back from vet about new leads I will post up

she needs to get her teeth cleaned soon so i will probably ask them to have a look at them then.
