inappropriate sexual behavior?

I am the proud enabler of a wonderful male manx cat, who I adopted about 7 years ago when he was approximately 3 years old. He's a fantastic cat. However, he does seem to be very easily aroused (he's fixed). He's my first cat, so I didn't think this was weird until I mentioned it to a friend who has more experience with cats. Max very often humps my sleeping basset hound (they get along fantastically), and often when he's sitting next to me I'll notice that his boy part is sticking out. The basset hound doesn't mind the humping (as long as kitty's claws are kept trimmed), but I just wanted to make sure nothing is wrong physically with the cat. He doesn't spray in the house or act odd in any other way. Thanks in advance for your advice.--Allison

I've had males do that (and they were neutered as kittens). As long as its not hurting anyone, I just let it go. Your boy may have bred cats before he got altered, but I would not worry about it.

One of my cats does it too, long as it isnt my arm or leg or furniture where his claws can get in, I don't mind it.

Oddly enough, there are "hump toys" made specifically for this purpose. It seems kind of sick and wrong to me, but I guess that if you're giving your kitty a specific place it's OK for him to use this behavior, then it might alleviate some of the inappropriate business. I think they're mostly made for dogs but I guess even a designated stuffed animal might help.

I don't know what to tel you other than that. I've never had this problem, myself.

Okay, good. He's almost perfect, so I guess this can be his one "vice".
And since the dog doesn't seem to mind, I'll just let him be Max's "hump toy." Thanks for your posts.
