Attitude's eye is still messed up and her nose is still bloody. I think the nose is the cause of the URI she had. You can hear her snuffing and sniffling and it's affecting her breathing.

Vet called after I called to say how Attitude was doing until the respiratory infection is gone the nose was going to remain messed up. I told him I think the nose caused the URI since she had seen one of his colleagues with the eye and nose messed up(right after it started) and her lungs were clear at that time.

He said he could prescribe Metacam as an anti-inflammatory but it would only be for very sporadic use. I think he wiped that idea when I said I knew it could cause kidney failure.

I'm just not even sure of what to do. If the Metacam can get her nose under control if that is what's causing crap to get into her lungs I almost think the theoretical risk of the Metacam outweighs the risk.

I just don't know what to do. He said for me to call him if I want the metacam.

I've about lost hope on the eye and I'm sure the eye is causing the nose and then the nose is causing the URI which made her really ill and made the vet think she might not make it.

What should I do? Go for the metacam, just deal with it and hope she doesn't get another URI and listen to her sniffling and snorting and breathing because of the nose. Or should I get a second opinion. Her eye has been like this for over 2 months, I think almost 3 and nothing will clear it up. I am giving both her and Nuts 1000mg of Lysine on their food plus have some in their fountain and it does look better but no where near normal.

Any suggestions? I'm out of ideas.

Has Attitude been tested for herpes using the Idexx Real PCR URD test? Has any of the discharge been cultured and had a sensitivity test done on it? I'd definitely look at the culture and sensitivity test to find out exactly what type of infection you're dealing with and what will most effectively treat it.

Have you changed to a grain-free diet?

She is on grain free.

Her eye is red and watery, no discharge and the nose is mostly blood which clots at the end of her nostril, there is also a little clear watery stuff but it's mostly just blood so there is nothing to culture. I also don't have the money for a culture 3 months worth of vet bills plus a neuter for Nuts has made me poor. I can't afford anything more.

If it doesn't clear do I go back to my vet or get her records and try another vet at a cat-only clinic? Maybe another set of eyes won't hurt but I just don't know.

Oh sweetie, I am so sorry that you and Attitude are going through this...
It must be such an ordeal for her. I would certainly get a second opinion. It wouldn't hurt at all and another vet may be able to give you more ideas. If the second vet recommends Metacam as well, then give it a try. Sending a ton of vibes hun.
