Pic is a bit graphic.

This really burns my butt. I find poachers to be despicable people that deserve the same treatment in kind. Yeah, I'm an eye-for-an-eye kind of person when it comes to things like this.

Rhino horn has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine, although tests reported by National Geographic have shown that it has no special properties and is similar to a fingernail.
So......perhaps they should cut off the fingernails of the Chinese who buy these products and sell those for medicinal value?

It is so senseless.

Tracking and eliminating poachers would be good training for military sniper teams. Just sayin...

That makes me so sick - killing rhinos for the horn, killing bears for their bile ducts...and so on...

When will they stop?

that's disgusting

don't forget the Japaness killing 1,000 whales a year, one species who is on the endangered list, for "research" and the 70 million sharks who are killed each year for their fins and by accident in fishing lines.

Humans really are despicable

This breaks my heart..people are so cruel. They slaughtered her calf and then killed her for a horn...what a waste.

I agree 1000% The Africans don't take too kindly to poachers either. As far as I know, pretty much all of the national/park guards have a "shoot on sight" policy of poachers. They don't have to be caught in the act - they know who is supposed to be in the Parks and if they find someone in there who isn't supposed to be there and who have weapons of any kind, they shoot first and ask questions later. Unfortunately with the amount of area to cover, they know it's a losing battle.

Someone asked when it would end. It will end when the risk isn't worth the reward:

Poachers can get more per ounce for rhino horns than for gold.
On some of the programming that I've seen that deals with poachers (usually as an off-shoot of the actual subject), they say that it is such a poor economy that people are willing to risk death to get the money from poaching.

Realistically, the only ways to stop poaching are to stop demand or give the poachers other means to earn money that doesn't involve killing animals. It's a bad situation either way - and the animals always get the worst end of it.

This should be in breaking news; I don't see how anybody is going to argue that this is okay.
