Pria's Check-up

This evening Pria had her first visit with the vet. She did very well! He did clean out her ears because they were full of yeast and bacteria but no mites thankfully. She did NOT enjoy the ear cleaning at all, but was still a sweet girl who started purring again as soon as he was done. She had her rabbies vaccine, and he said her heart sounded good and her eyes and coat were nice. She is however, only 2.6 pounds! He wants her to be at least 4.5 pounds before he will spay her, so we need to wait for a bit and get some meat on her bones. Her appetite certainly isn't the problem, as she's a lil piggy.

So now she's walking around here with her ears all skewed, looking like a gremlin, but all in all, things went well.

Poor Pria! I hate to watch while the vet cleans our ears. It's one of the few times I freak out! I always ask the vet to take my cat to the back for that torture.

The vet told me that a kitten will double in weight about every 4 weeks, so in a month, Pria should be big enough to be spayed. I'm sure with regular feedings of good food, she'll blossom soon enough.

Glad all went well for her today!

Congrats to Pria on the check up!

Did your vet give you tresaderm for the yeast in the ears? Yeast can be stubborn to get rid of, (and is contagious to other cats) it's best to treat it aggressively right away.

He treated her with something but I didn't get the name of it. He did say that it usually only takes the one treatment though.

Does she still have the stuff in her ears? Was it a goopy substance?

A little goopy, more greasy. And yeah, her ears are all greasy looking now. The first stuff he put in there to clean them out. Once he cleaned them all out, he put something else in there, but I just trusted he knew what he was doing and I didn't get the name of it. He said that it normally takes only one treatment for it to clear up. He asked me if she was scratching at her ears, and she hasn't been at all. He checked under the microscope for mites and there were none thankfully. So I'm just going to keep an eye on her ears and he said that if they get dirty again, we'll treat them more aggressivly, but that she should be fine.

I LOVE my vet clinic. There are a few vets there, but I always deal with the vet who treated Pria or a sweet female vet, the one who treated Zi's tail. They are all so sweet and compassionate there, including the techs, receptionist, etc. Not to mention it is literally a 5 minute walk and 2 minute drive from my home, so in case of emergencies, I can get my babies there in NO time.
