Hi all,i posted yesterday about Harvey being nuetered today,my neighbours Ian and Penny took him and their cat at 8am this morning. At 9.30 thdm nurse phoned me to say that they had Harvey under general anasthetic but they had discovered that one of his testicles hasnt descended and is quite far up in his abdomen so it wil be a more complex operation and be more costly.I dont care about the money but hubby isnt best pleased. The nurse said though that if it was left like it is though it would have almost certainly caused a cancerous tumour. So I am glad that we had him because we've probably saved his life. They are ringing again around 1pm to update me,I'm sure all will go well but with all surgeries there is always those doubts.x

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

Harvey will be alright.
The surgery and recovery time will simply be a cross between a spay and a normal neuter.

Harvey came home just after 4pm, my neighbours collected him, they couldn't find the testicle, they think it has gone too far up into his abdomen but they have severed the tube to it so that it should not cause him any problems in the future. He has a wound from the top of his belly to the bottom and also they have removed the normal testicle. He is feelin very sorry for himself and is extremely grumpy, apparently he attacked a nurse and the vet but who can blame him after such a big op. He has been prescribed pain relief which I am not looking forward to giving him tomorrow. They have given him a plastic cone collar to wear aswell but so far he is bein quite good and not licking his wound but its there if he needs it. He's got to go back in 10 days for a checkup. hen he is feelin a bit more lively I will take some pictures of his poorly as I am very suprised at how big it is, bless my poor little boy but I am so glad he was left for us as we have saved his life.xx

I think I would look like I was drunk, disoriented and in the mood to kick a few nurses, too.
But seriously, a half neuter may be as good as no neuter on the chances of an intact testicle becoming a magnet for cancer. You may want to think about getting a second opinion. I've never heard of 'not being able to find' unless the cat was too fat.

Glad he's home and doing as well as can be expected. What kind of pain medication. I hope not metacam, hopefully they gave you buprenex.
Buprenex is very easy to give as it is absorbed in the mouth through the gums. Just slip in the syringe, aim for the gums and squirt. That's all that's needed.
Keep us posted.

They have give me metacam, my neighbour brought it round this morning, I have not given it to him and told her the same about her cat, I know the dangers, I am going to phone the vets in a minute and ask for something else. Why do they prescribe that, it makes me mad. Anyhows Harvey is alot brighter this morning and almost back to his usual self. I am also a bit concerned that they couldn't find the testicle, I was doing a bit of research on the net last night, he is no way fat so that isn't the reason for not bein able to find it. He is back in 10 days so I can ask more then, I didn't have chance as my neighbour took him and picked him up as I don't drive. I will ask them when I phone also. They said the remaining testicle can't cause any harm but surely it cannot be good being left in there?x

It is also possible he was born with only one, which isn't completely rare in cats, or the retained one is much smaller than normal. But it is best to remove if possible as he will still have sexual behavior and, as you mentioned, increased cancer risk.

How is Harvey doing?
My very fist cat had this problem. It was years ago. He came home with a long incision. He did recover quickly and had no problems after that.

Hi, thanks I am glad to have found someone who has had experience of this as it scared me a bit, Harvey is I think feeling alot better, he's eaten well today and been up and about, aren't cats just fantastic at recovering from these things. His wound looks clean and good, he does keep licking where they removed his other testicle but not excessively, they have given me the collar to put on him but I don't think he needs it right now, I will keep my eye on his licking. He is terribly grumpy still and is growling alot when I try and fuss him. I'm sure he will feel even more better tomorrow, thankyou.x
