Wasnt sure where to post this so ima ask here...

I mentioned in another thread that I am now expecting, well I read in 'What to Expect when your Expecting" that your allergies get worse during pregnancy.
Ive always had Allergies to Cats I just was always able to take something so it wouldnt bother me. Now that im pregnant im scared to death to take anything... but my allergies are unbearable! I havnt been able to go a day without watery puffy eyes, constant sneazing, ect.
I try to keep my distance from the cats but it doesnt help at all.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips?? knew anything that was surely pregnancy safe or even natural remedies?? anything to help me would be great!

I se the doctor tomorrow (the 5th) and ima ask about it, but I would also like advice from someone whos experiance it themselves.

Talk to your obs/gyne doctor. I used to work in antepartum and we gave antihistamines to pregnent women at times because a side effect of pregnancy is sometimes a rash that is very, very itchy.

Don't take anything without talking to your doctor first!!!!

Definitely don't take ANYTHING without your doctor's approval! Even herbal things can be bad for you or your baby! I had to stop drinking my raspberry tea because that has been known to cause contractions!

As far as what you can do; I would say just keep things clean. Keep the kitties brushed, the house vacuumed/swept, the furniture swept. And/or keep sheets or towels over the areas the kitties like to sleep so you can easily throw them in the wash. I do this just to keep up with the cat hair! Keep the kitties out of your bed and change your clothes just before you get in bed. I know this can be hard; but my DH is allergic to our girls so these are some of the things we just do anyway (or used to, he's developed some resistance over time and takes OTC meds). We don't let the girls on our bed at all; and they really only come in our room when we are in there.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! And FWIW, my allergies (seasonal) did not get any worse with my pregnancy. But what I noticed is that sometimes when I had read something or heard something; I would suddenly start to notice whatever it was going on with me too. Like psychologically it was making things worse for me! I learned to not focus so much on symptoms and what not. It's like knowing you can't take something or eat something or drink something...man it makes you want it!! For me the worst were shrimp and margaritas!! And I rarely drink so it's not like it was something that I was used to having all the time!

Thanx,
We do brush the cats nightly as well as vaccuum alot (due to our current flea issue) but my allergies are worse when we do. I dont even have to be near the cats while my SIL is brushing them when I start sneazing histarically.

I agree with your statement here for some stuff... as far as allergies go, it started just days after I moved here (last month) and I baught the book just over a wk ago.
Funny, I went to a Moms Group a couple days ago and a lady who just had a baby and who was a herbalist said to drink some sort of tea to help... I just cant remember what she called it! lol another horrible sympthom.

Could the Fleas on the cats be aggrevating my allergies too/instead? before I moved here I lived with a friend who had 2 kittens and I never had an issue with allergies.. not sure how it works but figured id ask.
