This is a sad, sad story. I would never put my cats on a plane. Shucks, I won't even do that myself. Seriously, I hope someone investigates this catastrophe.

Actually I think I put this in the wrong forum. Would someone please move it where it needs to go.

According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, animal deaths by airplane are unfortunately common.

"We don't recommend pets traveling that way," Lisa Franzetta, director of communications for the ALDF, said. "The cargo areas are not temperature controlled, and especially in the winter and summer months, they can be uninhabitable."
Never, never, never!

Mine don't even like the car. I took Trace to a specialist, it was a 200 mile round trip. He was upset for 3 days.

That's awful!!!

No living thing should be forced to travel in an uninsulated, non-temperature controlled cargo hold. It's loud, it's hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter. That's total cruelty.

Someone should sue the airline!

Tripod used to like the car, until I took them to the vet together. Since then they both howl in the car. Conversley, my Dad's cat used to live on his shrimp boat and had no problem being out in the middle of the ocean for weeks at a time. She's home with him now, since he retired, but she still likes the car.

Its sad, but I've had cats shipped to me, I've shipped cats and have flown to shows with a cat - never had a problem in any way. The cat was usually sent non-stop so there is no extra handling that needs to be done.

And any cat shipped to me - we are there well ahead of time so when the plane lands they get the cat to me as soon as possible.

From the article, those puppies were from a puppy mill - no one ships 7 puppies at a time and since you know the condition of puppy mill dogs in the first place, no wonder they didn't make it.

I agree with Martice
No breeder would ship that many pups at once.
I have had 2 sphynx shipped from North Carolina via Texas to Sacramento with no problems.
Things can happen but you need to remember many breeders ship all over the world.
My husband used to work for a airline and yes things can happen but think about how many pets are shipped everyday.
BTW Cleo was shipped in the winter and the breeder called it off twice because he wanted it to be a certain temp.
My Wrinkles is another story.
She was lost by a airline along with a puppy but she was found.
I would have another cat shipped in the future.
My sisters also had cats shipped with no problems.
My the dogs were flat nose breeds.
We need more info.

The "cargo" area - are they talking about under the plane or where the animals are after landing and waiting to pick up.

Under the plane is pressurized and temperature controlled or they would not put animals in there. If you are talking about the cargo where the crates, boxes are sitting and you pick it up - that part is true - its open, etc. BUT any animal is put in a temperature controlled area quickly when delivered to the cargo pick up.
