Sorry if this post is long.

I have recently been feeding my cats only twice a day because I have one cat who was 19lbs and I need to get her weight down(she's already lost 1/2 a pound so far YAY!)

Anyways since I've done this I've noticed one of my cats Smokie every 3 or so hours he'll cry at me and cry. Especially if I go into the kitchen. So I figured he was used to eating little bits through out the day. So I wanted to get him on the feeding schedule so I'd wait. Usually by 4pm he's crying like he's starving. So I would then feed them all at the same time. After he ate he'd be fine. But then around 7 or 8 he'd be crying again because he's hungry. I didn't want to create a monster so I'd wait until morning. But by morning he was obviously starving. I'd give him his 1/2 a can of wet food and he'd wolf it down. After that he'd then be fine. But a couple of hours later and he was crying again. So I thought that I'd feed him when he was hungry during the day hoping that he wouldn't be so hungry in the morning. Well now he's eating about every 3 hours or so. He doesn't eat a lot at each feeding. But he seems to eat little bits throughout the day and night. He's not gaining any weight ( or loosing it). He's been to the vet for vomiting which was due to food intolerance. His blood test was normal. He's a more active cat though. He gets bursts of energy in the early morning, and late evening. During the day he sleeps on and off mostly, does play a little too.

Just wondering if some cats eat more than others? I don't really know how much a day he's eating. I have 6 cats. Only one is really overweight so I've started her weight loss slow by just feeding them 2x a day. The others are fine with the 2x a day feeding. But Smokie eats small amounts like 5-6 times during the day. Even giving him food when he's hungry, I pull the cat food dish up at night and in the morning he acts like he hasn't eaten anything for days.

Just kind of wondering how I can Juggle one cat who needs to loose weight with a cat who eats a little through out the day.

I have noticed that since giving him 1/2 a can of wet food a day he always wants the wet. If I go into the kitchen he'll start crying away and if I go into the basement he runs into the hall standing by the pantry door. So I don't know if his crying is more that he wants the wet stuff or if he's actually hungry. But if I'm out of the room or sitting quietly reading, he's quiet and curled up sleeping somewhere.

I've tired putting him in a seperate room overnight with a bowl of food, water and a litterbox. He's still crying in the morning for the wet (he LOVES the wet but can't afford to feed him a wet diet and still afford good quality dry for the rest). But you stick him in any room and he'll cry and cry. He hates being away from the other cats and people. If there is a way to get out of the room, he'll find it.

So I'm hoping someone else will have ideas?

one of my 5 cats was eating too much and getting way fat, I built a special feeding station with a door so only the small cats could fit thru to get food, fatso was fed wet food 3 times per day separately. He lost 6lbs and is about normal now.

Well smokey isn't gaining any weight so far. Today he's been better slept most of the day except for the several bouts of play because he found his yellow fur toy that he loves. He at at around 7am this morning and then at some dry after the wet. Then he ate a some dry around 11am, and then didn't hear a peep from him until about 3:30 when I gave him some food. Otherwise he's been playing since chasing one toy around or another

I have noticed that since I changed foods his coat has gotten nice and shiny. All of theirs has. It's gotten shiny and so soft. I have them all on Chicken Soup.

Hopefully his eating all the time will slow down and he'll slowly get to the schedule. He's been an eat when you want cat since he was a kitten so it may be a hard habit to break for him.
