Mollipop has a collar - Advice?

Mollipop came home from the hospital wearing a collar. I've not had much experience with these collars....Hydrox wore one years ago, but he was 19 at the time and wasn't very active. Mollipop isn't quite six months and she's quite an active little girl, even with the collar. She has to wear it until her stitches are taken out in about 2 weeks.

I'm scared to death that she's going to get caught, trying to jump up on something. Or that she's going to bang into something; she's having trouble judging width and is banging into walls at corners and such. I'm trying to keep an eye on her, but the collar hasn't stopped her from going up and down the stairs, although it's more difficult for her to come back up. And she was already playing with her little pink mousie; it got under the hutch in the kitchen and we had to fish it out for her. She's eaten some dry food....when I give her canned later on, I'll take her collar off until she's done eating and washing. But then I'll put it back on.

Can anybody give me some advice on how to handle a spayed kitten with a collar? I'm very nervous and I don't want anything to happen to her. I have off work tomorrow, but then I have to work the rest of the week and all of next week, too. I guess I'm just new at this; our other girls didn't have to wear collars. I'm going to be so worried about her.

Thanks for any advice!

two weeks? gosh, none of mine even HAD collars for their spays - plus, all 4 removed their own stitches! i checked w/the vet & they said as long as the skin was staying put it was ok.
there is a collar that Hissy recommended - i've only seen it online. if i ever have the extra $$ i'm going to buy one to have on hand, just in case.
foam e-collar

Good luck! When Aya got home, they said she'd been after her stitches already. They told me to either put her in baby clothes or an e-collar. Well she wanted no part of the baby t-shirt idea, and figured out how to pop her little bean out of the collar in under 10 minutes.

Meeko had the collar for 5 minutes before she bashed her head against the wall and destroyed it.
I would put clothes on her instead.
None of mine had collars since Meeko and they all had dissolving stitches.
If she is anything like my cats the collar will not last.

If you want to PM me a mailing address, I will send you one. The company when I reviewed their product, sent me several. Also let me know how old you kitty is and if you can provide a picture so I don't send you the wrong size. They come in 5 sizes.

My little guy is wearing one now. The vet sent the collar home with a bandage to attach it... Obviously that didn't work and he literally had it off in 5 minutes and had chewed holes in it. He is an oriental and is pretty mental normally so I was fretting he'd be all over his surgery wound if I didn't get him to wear it some how.

I ended up attaching it with a stretchy safety collar and it's stayed on ok and he's pretty used to it now (5 days now). I restricted his access to the stairs for the first couple of days and the cat trees too but he was running around as per usual! I take it off when I'm with him so he can wash, eat etc. But he has to wear it while I'm at work so I have our cat sitter come check on him (and our other kit) around lunchtime (just to make sure he's not gotten into mischief - so far he hasn't).

Good luck

What kind of collar is Mollipop wearing? Is it one of those hard, cone shaped things? My David a few years back had to wear a collar for 2 weeks also, for staples in his side, it was one of those plastic-type, flexible plasticky-fabric e-collars, very thin, and movable, like a soft cover for a swimming pool, if that makes sense. Anyways, that worked out ok for him, I was considering the foam one too that Hissy posted, but after a week, I took it off of him, and was fastidious in watching him, making sure he was not licking/bothering the staples..I don't know where to buy the soft e-collar, as my vet put it on him after the surgery..maybe try to find a soft flexi pseudo plastic fabric one at different vet offices?

also, you might try a baby's onesie [considering Mollipop's size, maybe a preemie size?]... that worked well for Java when she had her toe removed.

I will PM you now. Thank you so much!

She made it through her first night with the collar on....she slept next to me pretty much all night long. As soon as we removed the collar so she could have breakfast, she started digging at those stitches. I feel so bad for her. You can tell that she's sad with that thing on her.

The girls had collars on. They had to because Sophie had pulled a stitch out after 3 days

Mine were used to them by the end of the first week, then their stitches came out and it had healed over nicely so they didn't need one anymore

Glad the little beauty made out ok! None of my kitties ever had the collar though. Also, with spays, they had the disolvable stitches and I never had an issue with any of my kitties after their spays and neuters.
