*sigh* I've actually found myself recently considering giving up one of my 6 cats -the first I ever adopted. Since 2003 my life has reolved around this cat. When I adopted her they neglected to tell me she has seizures. I dealt with it cause she's always been my favorite, and I know anyone else would have put her to sleep. But after all these years - having to have a vet that makes house calls yearly to do bloodwork on her, the medications, her 100% refusal to use the litterboxes no matter what I've tried (so I put down puppy pads, and she still dumps all over the house), not being able to ever live in a home with carpeting because of her, not being able to open up my other rooms to the other cats because this one will come in and crap on my bed or clothes, or couch...having to be home every 12 hours to give her phenobarbitol, not being able to ever sleep over at a boyfriend's house or go on a trip because no one lives nearby to give her meds, and I can't board her anywhere cause she gets seizures when taken out of the house...I can't take it anymore.

None of the vets had any clue why she would poo all over the house. It's not behavior related, there's nothing else wrong with her, blood tests always come back fine... my last attempt at dealing with this is trying to wean her off the phenobarbitol hoping that will fix her issue because quite frankly, I don't remember her being like this before we put her on meds.

Guys, I have 6 cats, I cater to them, take them all to the vet, care for them, and make sacrifices like I think good owners should do, cause they're supposed to be like family, hell, I even have a cat tattoo lol but I'm at my wits end with this cat. I can't have people over to my home anymore because despite the furniture she's ruined that can't be used or got dumped so there's not many places left to sit, there's always poo on the floor when I come home. I can't take much more of this.

Have ANY of you ever dealt with any problems like this?

I somewhat recently acquired a seizure kitty - back in Dec I brought her home from the shelter to foster, and no one will adopt her to so here she strays. *greatest* cat in the world.

I'm just going to flat out say this - but realize no one will adopt this cat. Heck, no one would adopt my drop dead gorgeous seizure kitty from the age of 7 weeks to 1.2 years of age - medium hair tortie - great with kids/cats/dogs - no behavioral issues.

Are you & the vet certain that the seizures aren't causing her accidents? That it is intentional litterbox avoidance, rather that a cat voiding when she looses bowel control during a seizure? My Lola has micro seizures that cause her to poop herself once in awhile.
Have you tried behavioral modification medication?

To an extent yes. I had a cat who refused litter boxes due to growths on her feet. she was born in my hands yet by few weeks old semi wild(father is nuts.)

For some time I built her a cage and she was in that when door was opened to rest of house or when I went to work. She had the run of a room that was wood floored. I let her go only cause the growths got to be out of hand and she got worse with age about having me anywhere near her.

I am a firm believer that if you know the animals just going to go home to home "giving up the cat" is the easy way out...Put her to sleep, hold her tell her what a good girl she is. Don't let her stress in a new house/get dumped/forgotten meds.
I have couple dozen cats now and accidents happen. for most part house is catered to them. no rugs(more from dog who may be finally getting housetraining!) going to do all tile, easily cleaned futons with fitted bed sheets. Husbands got his private space they dont enter but rest of house has been transformed for ease of upkeep

If that cat is pooping all the over the place why allow it a free run of the house?

If you have an extra bathroom just lock that problem cat in there and put several layers of newspaper on the floor. With free reign in the house the cat maybe does not go to litter because it can avoid the spill and its lack of hygiene by leaving the pooped area for another area, but in a small enclosed bathroom, it may want to use the litter real quick when trapped in a confined area with its stinky mess. This may or may not solve the litter problem, but it will definitely be alot easier to manage.
