We all have to go grocery shopping whether we like it or not so my question is:

Do you make a shopping list before you go or do you just pick up what you need by memory.

I usually jot things down during the week as I get low or empty on an item. Then before I go shopping, I write everything down again in order of where they are found in the store. Yeah I know, I am very systematic in many ways

Oh and glad August is here which means summer is almost over, yipeeee

I try to make a list....and then leave it laying on the kitchen table almost every time.
Every Saturday I come home, start putting things away, and go "oh crap, I forgot...." so in I go again on Sunday to pick up the forgotten items. You'd think I would learn. It's funny how I never forget animal supplies, only human supplies!

The only time I remember to take a list is if I'm making something special.

I never end up sticking to the list so now I go in with thoughts of what I want and get the ingredients/stuff I need off the top of my head.

We make a list, then forget it and have to work from memory.

I always have a grocery list going in the kitchen, everyone here knows add items to the list as we start to run out of things. Then every weekend, I plan all the meals for the week and add to the list. It ends up being a long list 'cause I cook everything from scratch.

Definitely wouldn't be able to remember it all - the lists free my mind to think of other things...

When I could shop at a real super market I made a list. It was usually the same stuff every week but I still had a list.

These days I shop at a small local market that has a limited selection. I buy the same boring stuff every week if they have it. If not I made due with what I can find.

As long as I can get milk, cereal and coffee I'm OK. If I get the opportunity to have someone go to the real store with me I go nuts and buy all kinds of silly things.

Usually I write down ingredients for specific meals or occassions and buy other stuff by memory.

When I have to do major grocery shopping, I make a list. When I'm stopping to pick up just a few things, I make a mental list and then memorize how many things I need to pick up... then I can often be found in an aisle with a puzzled look on my face, trying to recall which 5 things it was that I needed...

I make a list on my phone which goes with me everywhere, and every time I see myself running out of something I add it to the list ....

I keep a running list on the kitchen counter, right next to my car keys. When the list gets long enough (or I run out of something absolutely necessary) I grab it, along with my car keys, when I leave for work, so I can do the shopping on my way home.

No list, rarely miss anything I need and have been known to get so cranky dodging idiots that I leave before I have everything, and then go without until the next trip. Getting anything is either a 60 mile or 90 mile round trip, so one always remembers the essentials. This time of year, however, if I want ice cream or milk, I get it at the confectionary in town because that stuff doesn't survive the trip home.

No list here either.
I just pick up what we need. We never buy MANY groceries because I hate to cook, so we eat out a lot.

DH usually makes a list and then we go by that. I always add a few items not on my list. I go to three stores.... 99 cent store, Dollartree and Foodmaxx. I get goodies at the first 2, like the cookies and candies DH and I love. Paper towels and TP are bought there too. I also will get some canned foods there. I am trying to save money.

I just made my list

I always do most of the grocery shopping (I get part of the fresh produce later in the week) on monday on my way home from work and to make that trip as smooth as possible I make my list on sunday.

On sunday the supermarkets put their special offers for the coming week on their websites, so I check those first. I also check the fridge to see if there's anything in there we need to eat that week.
Then I check our calendar to see when I'm going to cook and how much, e.g. we are going out for dinner this tuesday and on sunday DH is going to a concert and will eat there, this thursday DH will work a late shift and eat at work. So no cooking on tuesday but on wednesday I'll cook for two days (one extra portion for him to take to work on thursday and one extra portion for myself, I hate cooking for one). On sunday I'll probably make myself a nice sandwich for dinner.
With that info in mind I can plan a menu.

I have a list of all the groceries I buy on a regular basis. so then I just have to check if I need anything from that list apart from the ingredients for the meals from the menu that I already wrote down.
After I've made my list I put it in my wallet so I don't forget it.

I always make a list up and clip coupons before I go to the grocery store! The more organized that I am, the more money I save on my grocery bill
