Gooooooood Morning TCS! (Sorry, I just watched Good Morning Vietnam yesterday
)

Today's question is about your computer. I bought a new graphics card for my computer yesterday and I can't wait to get it. So....

What video/graphics card do your computer have?

If you're not sure, check your system information.

For Mac users, click on Apple, then About this Mac, then More Info, then Graphics/Displays.

For Windows, click on Start, then Accessories, then System Tools, then System Information, then under the components section, click on Display. Your card is the Adapter Description.

And for the odd Lynux user, open a terminal and type lspci. I think that brings up the system info.

As for my, in my Mac I have an ATI Radeon HD 3870. And in my PC, I currently have a Radeon X1650 Pro and I am upgrading to a Radeon HD 5850. Using a single core, it's almost 5 times faster than the X1650. I was going to get the HD 5970 (world's fastest graphics card) but it was just a bit out of my price range.

ATI MOBILITY RADEON Xpress 200 Series

Is that good?

Thank you for the step-by-step instructions, because I would have had NO clue how to check otherwise... I'm pretty computer illiterate.

Yep. Most laptops have Intel drivers and graphics cards. But since Intel isn't really big in the graphics card market they don't have a huge array of series like brands like ATI and NVidia.

this is what it says for video card when i type lspci in terminal

Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

I really don't know what that means ...It's a laptop and the model of the graphics card makes no sense to me, I'd rather know how much memory it has and what kind of memory it is to get an idea of how good it is, but I don't even know that because I don't use this laptop for games and so I just don't pay attention and never tried to find out.

That means you have the 960 chipset - the budget one for a cheaper laptop with support for only 533mhz fbs and DDR2 at that.
If you're still using mint you should have inix already installed. Use it. Type in inix -h and pick the switch you need.

I just have 945 onboard. I don't game and it plays nice with linux. If I felt like bothering with adding a card I have a couple spare ones laying about.
