I have a diabetic cat, Goofy. From a diabetic cat site, I have been feeding Friskies wet, only certain flavors. There is a formula for figuring out carbs by adding up the guaranteed analysis. To make my life easier, I feed everyone, all 11 cats the same thing. That way I don't have to seperate Goof out..

I think they are getting a bit tired of this food, and wondered what others are feeding their diabetics. They were on EVO for a time, but that gets very expensive at 1.25 a can. And a couple had stomach upsets with it.

I know Fancy Feast is a possibility, but again price. Almost impossible to feed 11 cats on those tiny cans! Friskies comes in the large cans, so it is less expensive.

Thanks for any info. If it comes to it, I guess I could start seperating Goofy out again. He seems fine with the Friskies, and feed the others something else. At least different flavors of Friskies.

But then again, they are all seniors, and I would hate to change their food to a carb laden kind and have another cat come down with Diabetes.

Ugh!!!!!

I don't have a diabetic cat, but I have recently started feeding my cats Sophisticat - Petsmart's cheap brand, similar to Friskies. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the ingredients - all the flavors I've looked at are grain free, and free of other plant products like soy or gluten. It's basically all meat, although it does contain some by-products. IMO it's a step up from Friskies or 9 Lives because it doesn't have the grains, plant protein or artificial colors like they do.

I had a diabetic cat that passed a few years from cancer. I cared for a few others that were turned into a local shelter.

For my own kitty, I went raw. Made my own with the recipe at http://www.catinfo.org It actually was much cheaper then buying a good quality canned food for my crew (of six at the time). I hate raw meat and was fairly certain I'd never be able to do it, but I was able to get over it with the help of some rubber gloves.

My diabetic was old, and she ate the food for a while, but then she decided she didn't want to any more, so she ate FF while everyone else ate raw. Not much fun to separate out, but it worked.

The fosters got Special Kitty from Walmart. There are several flavors that work. Have you checked out Janet and Binky's food charts?

Now that I don't have a diabetic (but I do have two who are prone to crystals and one that is currently dealing with VAS) and I have additional cats (I'm now up to eight) I buy premade raw because it would take me an hour a month to grind. To me it is currently worth the extra expense to get it made for me. There are several good brands out there. If you have a Feline's Pride distributer near you it is competitive and good quality. I unfortunately do not and shipping is quite expensive.

The website Your Diabetic Cat, founded by Dr. Elizabeth Hodgkins, might be helpful to you as well.

<<<<Hugs>>>> and good luck with your kitties.

Actually that is where I got the Friskies diet from. It is a great site full of information.

They had 9 lives also, but I just think they may be tiring of the same thing all the time. I know I would.

Thanks for the info everyone, going to do some trial and error studies!!
