Tail up?

Milo & Dexter are 2 year old brothers. Dexter is a tail up kind of cat. He has always walked with his tail straight in the air. As a kitten the vet said that he must be a very confident boy as he would walk around the exam room like this while Milo cowered in the back of the carrier. Milo has always walked with his tail down. The new kitten Lola has been given free reign of the house and since Milo has been walking with his tail up. It is the strangest thing. His walk has turned from 'laid back mellow cat' to a 'cocky strut'. What gives? Dexter & Milo are now tail up kind of cats and Lola walks with her tail down.

It sounds like Lola is tentative yet. Still figuring out her place in the house. Your other two are confident. Tail up indicates interest, and contentment.

Soon, hopefully, all will be tail up cats!

Thanks farleyv! I am just wondering why Milo went from walking with his tail down to walking with his tail up? He spent 2 years walking tail down whats with the sudden change? He has redefined his whole walk. He now struts around like he owns the place.

I had 2 other cats prior to these 3 and they both walked with their tails down. It wasn't until Dexter came along that I even knew cats could walk with their tails straight up in the air. I thought he was just a weirdo. Do most cats walk with their tails up? Does walking tail down mean that they are not content or confident?

Maybe it's a pecking order type of thing??? He wants to show that he is above the new kitten??? So cute though One of my kitties always has her tail up.....almost hanging over her back!

That's Mollipop, too! She flings that tail of hers up over her back and takes off through the house.

You know how an Alaskan Malemute or a Husky holds their tail way up over back and it waves like a flag? That's our Miss Pop!

Tail up is confidence, it's a greeting... maybe he realizes he is not at the bottom of the pecking order anymore.
