I've been working really hard at growing my own nails long because we aren't allowed to have nail tips as a health care professional.

I have several different shades of nail polish, mostly in the beige, pink, red range.

I have tried different brands such as Sally Hansen, OPI, Revlon and a few others. But I always gravitate back to Revlon as I find they have a better colour selection and I find their polish has staying power and tend to apply better than most of the others I have tried.

Probably my most favourite, is Revlon's "Cherries in the Snow." I bought it when it first came out in the late 1980's or early 1990's, and have been using it periodically ever since. Here is a link to it:

http://www.makeupalley.com/product/s...evlon/Polishes

It is a blue based polish which means it doesn't have any orangish hue to it and is really a pure red.

I like it so much that I buy this shade in bulk!
Well, sort of! I tend to buy 2 at a time and when I have to start on the second bottle, I go out and buy 2 more, so I always have 2 spares.

My tips for making polish last:

1. Clean and well dried nails prior to applying polish;

2. Use a good base coat. I find for Revlon nail polish that their own base coat, Revlon Base Coat, really does help the polish last a lot longer. I've tried other base coats, but for some reason the Revlon one when paired with a Revlon polish really is superior;

3. Apply 2 thin coats of nail polish, allowing the first coat to dry really well before applying the second coat. In fact when I polish my nails it takes me 2 days, sometimes 3 before I am finished!
I apply the base coat and let it dry well. Then apply one thin coat of actual polish and let that dry for several hours....yes, hours, so that it's completely dry and hard. Then I apply the second coat and let that dry for several more hours (applying the second coat softens the first coat and base coat so you need more drying time for the second coat to make sure that all 3 layers are dry and hard). Then I apply a top coat. Again, letting it dry for several hours, followed by a second top coat.

4. Wear rubber gloves for dishes. It isn't the water that is hard on nail polish, it's the chlorine in the water that breaks down the polish.

So girls, what is your favourite brand and colour of nail polish?

I painted my fingernails all the time when I was in high school (I even used to French manicure myself!!), but these days I'm more of a pedi girl. I can't even remember the last time I painted my fingernails... A pedicure is such a rare treat that I tend to go a little mad when choosing colors. My last few pedi colors have been various shades of blue and purple.

I've never had a professional pedicure. I have in-grown toe nails and they often hurt me. I'm freaked out that going for a pedicure would be more traumatic than relaxing.

Great thread! I just painted my nails a little while ago, so your timing is perfect!
I just used some polish that I got for .99 at the store- N.Y.C. polish called "Love Me Red Creme" 135A. It's pretty! Normally I like OPI and Fingerpaints polishes, but I loved the color of this one at couldn't resist! (the one on the bottom in the middle) http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...FMKAlAeIlKDRCQ

That's too bad.
I didn't get my first professional pedi until I was 35 (a couple years ago). I was worried that my feet were too ticklish to handle it, but I've gotten accustomed. Not that I'm pampered by any means, I've only had about 5 professional pedis... but I love them. I live in CO, so my skin is dry to begin with, and in the summer I tend to wear flip-flops 24/7, and my feet get nasty dry. I pumice them at home, slather them with lotion, trying to beat the dry skin, but nothing can beat whatever they do at the salon.

I LOVE professional pedis! I take Mom for one every year for Mother's day, just in time for sandal season.

As for nail polish I also really love Revlon, great quality. I tend to usually go for shades of pink.

I don't use nail polish. My nails just don't grow. As soon as one gets a bit of length, it shatters.

A strong wind can break my nails!

I keep my nails rather long...just broke one last week, so filed them all down to a little over 1/4 inch out. They'll grow back. I like long nails.

I like the burgundy colors, but also have some pale pinks and some beige. I have a raisin-type color that I love for autumn. Mary Kay used to sell some polishes that were two-tone and the color of the polish depended on the light shining on your hands. They were funky and I liked them. I have a blue polish that I love to wear sometimes in the summer, just because it's so summery.

I tend to go with Sally Hansen, some Revlon and OPI.

Lets see my toes and my fingers very rarely match! My fingers are currently a brand called Carlo di Roma in a shade called Ballet Pink. Its a very light shade of pink with just a little sparkle and looks great and formal for work. And my toes have a brand called Pure Ice and the shade is Wild Thing. It is lime green and matches Mean Green. (My boyfriends 79 MGB)

I really like Sally and Pure Ice brands. Both seem to wear really well with me!

Whatever color strikes my fancy that particular week. I love the mauves and beiges. I will not wear red at all. I have been wearing Joan Rivers nail polish collection which has a nice variety. I also always wear a base coat and top coat and use Sally Hansen "hard as nails" for some protection.

i don't polish my fingernails, but i do my toes. i like the little tiny bottles @ Sally's Beauty Supply - $1 each, so i have tons of different colors! plus, you end up using the whole bottle rather than having bottles go bad [has happened to me, since i like a lot of different ones]. also, if you try one & don't like it, it's not like you spent a bunch on in - just toss it.
i have found polish lasts much longer in the bottle if you store them in the fridge.

Time before last, right after I polished my toes in bright red, I accidently stubbed my big toe and broke my toenail in half right down the middle. I think it was because I had on bright red polish!!
. So...off with the polish until the nail grew back out, and I just redid them yesterday. This time I did not tempt fate and went with a nice pearlie, champagnie, beige color by Revlon (don't you just love my description?). I rarely polish my fingernails, even though I DO wear rubber gloves when doing the dishes. Used to wear my nails really long, but now they tend to grow crooked, so I keep them extremely short.

I can't wear nail polish at all, since I scrub for surgery. My fingernails are pretty short to facilitate tying suture. I do love to keep my toes painted though. My favorite polish is Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer, in either Rosa Rosa, or Rose Apricot. Those colors seem to go with everything. Estee Lauder Nail Lacquer and Lancômeâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s Vernis MagnÃ[emoji]169[/emoji]tic Nail Lacquer seem to last longer than any other brand I've tried.

My favorite colors are mostly creamy colors that are not sheer, I hate colors that allow for my natural nail's color to show through...
Currently I'm into bright pink, coral colors, pastel purple and pastel pink...I absolutely love dark colors as well, like plum, dark blue, etc, but I'm not into them at the moment....
And I love nail polish in general, I paint my nails all the time.
I've been meaning to buy nail polish dryer so I don't have to wait for it to dry, but I always either forget or I have a billion other things to buy from Ulta that I'm already above my budget..
