future BFFs?

OK, so I have a 5YO niece, Hannah. Her birthday was in January, and as I have been unemployed for a while, I gave her a "sleepover at my house" for her last birthday. In the meantime, I have moved into my mom's house, as have my sister & BIL (Hannah's parents), and she has been bugging me to have that sleepover in my mom's basement, where my room is. Well, tonight is the night.

My Holland is a scaredy-cat by nature, and although she has been getting braver regarding my sister's 3 kids, she is still very wary of them. Hannah fell asleep a little while ago, and Holland just couldn't help herself:

"I'm not interested. I don't care what that new lump on my floor is..."

"What? That girl has a security blanket with fringes? I think I'll have to investigate..."

"OK. She seems safe now. Isn't this the one who's usually loud and likes to follow me around everywhere? What happened to her? Is she OK?!?"

I can't wait to show Hannah the photos tomorrow...

Editing to add a couple photos, because it's always nice to see faces...

Those are wonderful thank yo so much for sharing Holland's little exploration. Your captions decribe her thinking perfectly!

If I were you I'd make a little collage, or put the pics in a frame for her to keep always. Maybe as Hollland gets bolder you can get one of your niece awake and Holland, to add to the set.

That's a nice idea. Hannah is kind of having a rough time, because daddy took her older sister & brother camping this weekend and Hannah got left behind. She's the littlest in the family and she tends to get left out sometimes. But my mom, my sister and I are making sure she gets spoiled plenty this weekend. Last night, we watched Where The Wild Things Are and had popcorn and candy.

I told her that after this weekend, Holland would be more comfortable with her than with Nick or Sarah, and that seemed to cheer her right up. They are all three so cute, they want to be friends with Holland and they are very good at following my directions and advice. Holland actually came out the other night when all three of them were downstairs with me!! While my situation is not ideal for me personally, I think it is great for Holland and the kids.

Aw, that's just adorable. I bet they will be fast friends pretty soon. The 'H' girls have to stick together.

P.S. Good on you for making Hannah feel special. Every child should get that.

So, I'm a sucker and I let Hannah talk me into letting her sleep downstairs again. Things are progressing:

"I see you, you see me, what are you gonna do about it?"

There's a mutual feeling here of not being too sure about one another:

"Are we cool?" "Yeah, we're cool."

Well it looks like Holland is making great progress! I'm sure it helps a lot that you've taken the time to teach Hannah (and the others) how to act around Holland. Great progress for all!
