I hate to fly and only do so when a vacation spot is too distant and too difficult to resist. But I'm betting someone on TCS can answer my question.

DH and I live approximately 30 minutes by car from a major international airport. There seems to be a flight path to be directly over our house. We sit out frequently in our backyard at night, tiki torches lit to ward off mosquitos, and relax. My question is: do you think the people on the planes can see the light of our torches from the air?

I can remember flying over a lake once during the day and seeing swimming pools in backyards not long before we landed. I have no sense of location while flying, but I believe the lake I saw was about 30 minutes (again, by car) from the airport.

I know my question is dumb, but I have been wondering about this for a while now. DH joked that he hoped none of the pilots thought our torches were runway lights.

If your house is anywhere close to the airport, and on its path, then yes! I am a frequent flyer who always gets a window seat to look at stuff like this, take pictures, and of course to sleep - but love, love to watch the World outside.

Thank you, Carolina! I have wondered about this every night for I don't know how long.

Wait 'til we get our fire pit for the colder months. It should have good visibilty from the air.
