First time poster, so here's some background. We've got three cats. About two years ago, we got two of them, Willow (longhair) and Kitty (shorthair), from a psychology grad student who was getting too busy for them and wanted to find a good home. Both females, they keep each other good company. They were both about 1yr, vaccinated and fixed when we got them, so they're both about 3 years now. About 9 months ago we got our third, Malachi, from a friend who had a whole litter to give away. Got him fixed and vaccinated when the vet recommended it (several months ago), and he's doing well. It took the girls a while to get used to him, but no big problems.

Kitty and Willow both throw up occasionally, usually when they eat too fast. You can see the food in it, and they're fine afterwards. No problem. Willow occasionally has hairballs, so we know what those are like. Also no problem.

Yesterday, I woke up late to Kitty throwing up on the bed. Not anything she had ever done before. There was a little bit of food in it, but not nearly as much as usual; it was much runnier and had a yellow color. I went in to work, and when I came home eight hours later, I saw 4-5 new yellow stains on the carpet, no food in any of them. I called in a vet appointment and they said the first thing they had was the next day (which was today). I didn't clean the spots, as we're in the middle of moving out of this apartment and I was planning on renting a carpet cleaner in the next few days anyway.

Today I got home from work early to take Kitty to the vet, but I didn't see any new spots. I called the vet to cancel, figuring that she had gotten better (we're very short on cash these days). About 20 minutes after I got off the phone, she walked in to the living room (I would guess she had been eating) and started throwing up on my desk. She has now thrown up, or tried to, at least 5-6 times, with some pitiful moans and restless attempts at napping between. After the first time, all of the vomit was runny and either yellow or clear. She's now trying to sleep again. I called the vet and they said they could get her in early tomorrow morning. I'm going to take off work to bring her in.

The only thing I can find that this resembles is feline distemper, but it seems to mainly affect unvaccinated kittens from what I've read, and Kitty is a 3yo vaccinated indoor cat. Her records say she received her Rabies and FVRCP vaccinations back in 12-4-00 (Willow got hers at the same time). Should this have had a booster by now?

All our cats are indoor cats. There is a lot of junk being kicked up in the house lately, as we're in the middle of a move. I'm using clay clumping litter (don't know what the feelings are about clumping litters here), but had planned on changing that out today for the wood pellet stuff just in case.

Nothing out of the ordinary in the litter boxes. If she's got diarrhea, she's going somewhere that I don't know about, which wouldn't be many places as our furniture is mostly moved out now.

Any ideas? My wife has been on tour with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps (http://www.bluecoats.com/) since May, and she would be heartbroken if she never got to see Kitty again. I'm not averse to racking up credit card bills for our cats. Please let me know what you all think.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the lengthy message...

Kitty could have gotten into anything lying around and it is upsetting her stomach. Usually when they throw up liquid and not food, it is a danger sign of something wrong. Is she hydrated? To check scruff her neck gently pinch and release, it should flatten down in just a few seconds, if it stays up, you need to get fluids in her fast. It it stays up in a pronounced way, you should get her to the vet today instead of waiting.

On the other cats, try elevating their food bowls a little bit. Set them on a telephone book or something to help them relax their throat and stop gobbling their food.

I think that's cool your wife is in the drum and bugle corp. My best friend used to be a drummer for the Kingman Drum and Bugle Corp. I used to love to go to his practices and watch.

Thanks for the welcome and the information. She seems to be hydrated okay, at least now (and that's a neat trick with the scruff). I just put some water in front of her and after looking at it for a minute or two she drank some, and has been holding it down okay. I think she'll be okay until the morning.

Yeah, I think it's pretty neat that she made it in to the Bluecoats. I played Clarinet in high school and never got dedicated enough to learn a brass instrument, but I always looked up to the people who marched drum corps in the summertime. She is definitely getting in shape. :-) She has a free day this weekend, and we'll get to spend some time together for the first time since she left in May! Unfortunately my excitement has been tempered by the knowledge that I may be leaving a sick cat behind when I make the drive down to Houston. Fortunately I can leave her with my mother-in-law, who is pretty good with cats (they have a long family tradition of nursing some pretty beat-up feral kitties to live long lives).

I just brought my cat to my house after he has been at my mom's for awhile, I have noticed the past three days now that there is puke on the floor. I just cleaned it up noticing it was remotely fresh. Looked like food, my roommates have kittens, (Peaches and Noisette) So I figured the kittens were chasing my cat around after he ate, no big deal. Well, I woke up to head to work today (Nov. 30) and I saw Aries (my cat) puking, the first time it was just chunks of food, then he moved and puked up clear stuff, I also remember when I lived at my mom's he would only puke up clear stuff and be fine, I am just worried that these past 3 days was my cat. I know the food he is eating is different than what my mom fed him, (and he was spoiled with small leftovers) but I am not sure if I should find a vet close to me so I can get him looked at and hopefully just be overly concerned than have him pas something onto the kittens.
I am just noticing that my cat is not the only one doing weird things....
