My lovely baby Otis Blue is all black and very handsome but he will not let me groom him. He isn't matted or anything, in fact his coat is great.

I'm worried that every time I go to groom him he tries to bite or scratch me. He has been to the vet and there is nothing medical wrong with him. Any advice?

Start working with him very slowly if you want to start grooming him, work it into petting sessions. Give him praise and/or treats when he tolerates even just a few seconds to begin with, working for longer intervals as you go. Never push him into it, though. If he starts getting agitated with even one brush stroke, stop. Little by little he will get more tolerant of it, especially if he knows you will stop when he's has enough.

I have the same problem with Leo. I can brush him for about 2 minutes and then he has had enough! But I have noticed that I have been able to build up to brushing him longer so my advice is keep at it

The only time my Loki let's me brush him is when I forst come home. Then he is so exited to see - i can do almost anything. Well, Loki does not sit still and I hac to run after him while brushing him at the same time. Ouch my aching back

Sometimes it's about finding the right brush/comb that he'll enjoy. The only thing Loki likes is a comb that is normally used for teasing hair. Personally I don't care what I use as long as it gets the job done and since this comb has a lot of teeth spaced tightly together it does a great job.

Hope this helps

thanks for the tips, I'll give it a go. I also bought a "pet mit" which is a glove that has rubber bumps on it which is ment to pick up the fur while you stroke him. I will give it a try!!!
