Do you go to them?

Our library just had their annual used book sale. One bag of books for $15, with some of the newer books at about $3.00. I like to go to scout out cookbooks and novels by some of my favorite authors. And check out new authors I might be interested in reading. I didn't make it this year because of my knee surgery. People donate their books to the library throughout the year. They also have CDs, DVDs, and the like for sale. This time, our library made almost $30,000, which goes to help keep it open on Sundays and to buying new books and such. With budget cuts in the state and local governments throughout, the book sale is a great help.

But there is a huge book sale coming up this weekend, sponsored by our local paper. I think at last count, there are supposed to be about 60,000 - 70,000 books at this year's sale. One of my work GFs is coming to pick me up and we're going to meet some other GFs at a local restaurant for breakfast on Saturday morning. Then we'll all head over to the sale. I'm working on composing a list of authors I might be interested in checking out. And, of course, the cookbook sections. I never know what I'm going to find and it's almost like a treasure hunt for me.

Do you take advantage of used book sales?

Oh I absolutely do!
Our library also has a big used book sale every year in May. I was pretty broke this year but still managed to pick up a few books.
I also do a lot of trading at United Book Store uptown.

Yes, yes, yes!! The Denver public library has a huge used book sale every year that I absolutely love to go to. I got a bagful of books for about $10 a couple months ago. Hardcovers are $3, paperbacks $0.50. Can't beat that!!

Our library does have book sales but I never buy books anymore. I used to go to a place called the Book Trader and trade books back and forth at a lower price. The reason I stopped buying books is because I was tired of finding places to keep them. Now I don't even trade books anymore, I just go to the library. For me, after reading a book I have no desire to hang on to it. I just bring it back to the library and get more, this way I don't have the clutter of books in my home.

I go to a used book store where they give me credit for the books I turn in after reading them. A few weeks ago I lookedd at a paperback at Publix and it was $9.95. For a paperback!!!. It's used books only for me.

That's exactly how the Book Trader worked, all books were used so were at a reduced price. Then you got another discount when bringing back the books to trade more. For me tho, the library is the way to go...no cost at all

I don't go to the library's sale as often as I used to just because it's so crowded! I do pick up a lot of books at yard sales and the Salvation Army store. I've also discovered that I can get hard-to-find books at half.com; the books are usually cheaper than the shipping, but if it's something I really want, what the heck?

It starts on Saturday morning! It's up at the Antiques place in the corner of that strip mall across from the Super WalMart right off Route 15, north of Lewisburg. You know where the Dollar store and the UPS store are? It's in there, at the eastern end.

Last year they had it at the Street of Shops on North Water Street in Lewisburg, right off Route 45 and I think they ended up having it four or five days. I found a TON of books last year. My GF and I went one day and then turned around and hit it again and I found books both times.

I would highly recommend it. I saw a lot of Nora Roberts books there last year and there were a few JD Robb books, too.

The big one here is the AAUW (check out their website for sales in your area!). It starts like at 3 pm and I get in line about 30-45 minutes early! Its $1/book hardcover or paperback. The price drops the next couple of days and the last day its $5/bag. They are sorted in categories. They have newer releases/rare books individually marked. I take $20 and come back with some good ones. I have started my donation stack to them as well.

I will check out the area Good will stores as they have lots of books at good prices too.

I scored big last year. I found Feline Infectious Diseases by Niels C. Pederson (a wonderful man I had the opportunity to meet in person) and Feline Husbandry by same for $10.00 Like I said, I scored. I left them more money though when I bought them. I know they had no idea what a goldmine they had!

Normally I love scrounging at antiques and thrift stores and such but for books I find my reading interests are usually so esoteric that I wind up buying new or used from Amazon. And of course now I am in a non-english speaking country...so still Amazon JP.

Last books I bought were Dollybird magazines and a catlogue of the Brooklyn Museum of Arts Costume collection at the Met (my grad degree is in costume lots of good it ever did me though
.)

Our Libraries have them sometimes but I never think to look to see when they are happening. If I happen to be some place where there are books being sold though, I will stop and browse.

I love books! Those digital reads just aren't the same. Nothing like the feel of a good book in your hand!

Glad you're going! I'm heading to Perkins at 8:30 with some GFs for breakfast, then we're going to head over.

I'm going to be carrying a Trader Joe's bag. Look for me; we can meet up for a few minutes!
